My family of four booked with Christopher to visit the Goblin's Lair in Goblin Valley State Park. The kids (8 and 10) were initially enthusiastic about the prospect, but became panic-stricken in terror when they saw the 90' rappel into a dark chasm. Christopher patiently helped them to each overcome their fears and descend. Both kids now claim that this adventure was the highlight of our 10 day trip in Southern Utah. They have pride in their accomplishment and a renewed sense of courage. Christopher is very patient, as all good teachers are, and I am thankful for the opportunity to explore with him.

A variety of terrain and canyon types to explore within a mile from road- where there is a convenient place to park. Very low-key/not very popular, we were all alone when we went, but a must see if you have a few hours to burn driving buy, beautiful little canyon.

The Wolverton Mill is the unique and historic wooden mill on display outside the BLM office in Hanksville, Utah. It is available for free viewing 24 hours a day .
Here you will find the dual purpose ore mill and sawmill constructed by pioneer, Edward Thatcher Wolverton during the early 21st century during his gold searching days in the nearby Henry Mountains.
Reconstructed at this location in Hanksville in 1988, visitors can enjoy self-guided tour, enjoying the engineering, inner workings and wooden construction of the Mill. There are BLM brochures inside with numbered information highlighting its construction and engineering functions throughout. It is worth using when exploring your way through the Wolverton Mill.
Finding the historic Wolverton Mill isn't too difficult in tiny Hanksville. It is located in the back of the BLM Management office at 100 W Street, just a minute or two off the main Route 24. You'll easily spot the two story Mill as you approach.

Our family took a tour of the Robbers Roost area. The tour guide, Bob, spent the day with us. He knew the area, was very accommodating and flexible with our schedule taking us to what we wanted to see as well other points of interest, personable, and professional. Hanksville tours pricing was very good and their booking agent was very friendly and responsive. Our family had a wonderful time! We are looking forward to coming back to take a tour of the Horseshoe Canyon area with Hanksville tours. Thank you for a great experience and a fun trip!

Before heading over to Goblin Valley, we stopped at Hollow Mountain for some gas, snacks, and water. The store was carved out of the inside of a brown sandstone hill and it was like walking into a big cave. They sell a little bit of everything, including an excellent assortment of Michael Kelsey guide books, which I was amazed to discover are now in their fifth printing. His original book “Canyon Hiking Guide to the COLORADO PLATEAU” was my hiking bible for many years. My, how time flies when you’re having fun.
This is by far the best place in town to get gas, ice, snacks, beer, and other supplies like camping gear.

Sometimes you come across a view that just blows your mind. That’s the case with the Skyline View overlook of the Blue Valley near Factory Butte. You could fly to the moon and quite possibly not see something that looks so “Moon-like” as you will see here. Wayne County is know for its terrain that looks extraterrestrial and this view won’t disappoint.
The place is off the beaten track, not frequently visited by tourists but totally worth the detour. It is about 16 miles West of Hanksville. It is easy to reach with a high clearance vehicle. There's plenty of desert views in the region, but this is quite different from all the rest.

7. Hanksville-Burpee Dinosaur Quarry

Great chance to tour dinosaur excavation during an active dig. Located outside of Hanksville, Utah the on-site tours are only available during part of the active digging season so check with BLM office in Hanksville for timing and directions to dig. The county road to the site can be very rough in places so a high ground clearance vehicle is highly recommended.
