The Fort Frances Museum

Reviewed By Caribbeanjunkies - Oklahoma

We drove over to Ft. Frances for the day from International Falls without any particular plan of action. We popped into this museum on a whim, and were SO glad we did! This small museum crams an incredible number of exhibits and artifacts into a comparatively small space and provides a wonderful glimpse into the history of the entire area and the Ojibwa people and Europeans who shaped it.
In addition to touring a wonderful museum, our paid admission ($4.00 adults, $2.00 for seniors) also got us the code to gain access to self-guided tours of the nearby Logging Tug Hallett, and the Lookout Tower (both very much worth seeing!)
So unless you have zero interest in the history of an area you're visiting, this museum is a MUST DO!

The Lookout Tower

You can climb the Tower or tour the Hallet on Fort Frances waterfront. The Tower is the best place to see great views of Fort Frances and Rainy Lake. The hike requires good footwear but isn't too far up for anyone to go.

Heron Landing Golf Course

Reviewed By TiMark5 - Winnipeg, Canada

Heron Landing is a very nice golf course set in beautiful Northwestern Ontario. It is highlighted by its signature hole number 10 that challenges golfers in every aspect of their game. The whole course features wonderful Forests and wildlife. You may even get to the see the occassional black bear. Also if you are travelling away from the course the Fort Frances area features great fishing and sportsman adventures. The price to play a round is very reasonable but you should take a cart to play as some of the holes are very long and far away from the club house. I am writing this review in the opinion of a teenager who has played the course with family, friends and on my own. The golf course also has a club house that has washrooms, a shop to buy golf clubs and more. Attatched to this is a wonderful restuarant with reasonable prices as well. Sometimes the restuarant will make different bakings like cookies and cinnamon buns that are to wonderful! This is one of the nicest golf courses in Northwestern Ontario and i highly recommend you play it.

Was transferred to the hallet from another tug for 3 weeks in 1971. We towed from wood down the sceine river to Fort Frances. The hallet looks much smaller now, especially the top bunk that was mine, you learnt not to sit up too fast. Great 3 weeks, good food ,good company and a dream to work on the largest working boat on rainy lake. nice to see them save this piece of local history. Will return next time I'm back in town

I've had a great time every time stopping in. Such a wide array of video games, and the pool tables were a fun new challenge. It's a really clean building, spacious, and the prices on everything are very reasonable. I will definitely be back!
