Chiesa San Lorenzo

We had a driver for the day during our visit to northern Sardinia and we let him take us to his most special places and this church was our very first stop. Admittedly, the church’s exterior is very unassuming with the exception of the stained glass window above the entryway. We all looked at each other and thought, huh? But when we entered the sanctuary, our jaws dropped! The architecture, the use of natural materials, the ceiling, the stone work, the interior glass work is minimalist and absolutely stunning. This is a MUST see if you are in the area.

Catena Alimentare di Emmanuel Chapalain

We visited this spot after we visited the church and found it playfully perfect for the area. The walkway is inlaid mosaic tiles of fish and as others have indicated, it represents the “Food Chain” perfectly. Delightful in a artistic village.

Spiaggia di Ira

First off, let me tell you that I have been reliably informed by local people that there are far better beaches in this neck of the woods, but as far as I can see, this beach is quite beautiful. As beach sizes go, this is not going to be named Europe's largest stretches of sand anytime soon. What it is, however, is a family friendly beach with plenty of rentable umbrella and sun lounger space to choose from. I am writing this towards the end of the so-called mid-season, which runs until June 30th...I am sure that come July and August, this place will be packed. Two sun loungers and an umbrella on the front row will cost 42 euros, which is about the same price as the shingle beaches of Nice in high season. What makes this beach so spectacular is the crystalline, turquoise waters that are practically transparent. This is the type of water normally seen in The Maldives or The Turks and Caicos. Swimming is easy, and in fact there is little current to speak of. The only waves you will find here are from the wakes of the super yachts that drop anchor some 200 metres from the shoreline. The beach is clean, and there are life guards on duty during the day. If you need some refreshment, there is a restaurant and also a smaller and less expensive sandwich shop on the beach. At the sandwich shop, a mortadella sandwich and a coke will cost you about 7 euros. It's good quality food, so you can't go wrong. Overall, you can come here and spend a solid 5 hours of relaxing time on the beach here as there are strict regulations on playing loud music. If you are coming to stay in Porto Rotondo, this is a beach that will certainly get the job done!
