Waseda Farms

This is a must stop every time we venture to Door County. There are good reasons that the finest restaurants in DC feature beef, pork, chicken and eggs from Waseda Farms. The farm store is quite like a candy store for grown ups with their fine Waseda products, fresh vegetables and local wines. Our pooch is hooked on their homemade "doggie crack". Everyone that we have dealt with at the farm and market are truly "all in" with organic farming. The store manager, Sayard Geeve is truly a gem and a wealth of knowledge. Tours of the farm are by appointment and definitely recommended for families with children.

Cana Island Lighthouse

Explore Door County’s most iconic lighthouse, which in 2019 celebrated 150 years of standing watch on the shore of Lake Michigan. Ride a hay-wagon over the causeway to explore the island, including the 89-foot-tall light tower, oil storage house and lighthouse keeper’s home. The highlight of any Cana Island visit is climbing the 97 steps of the tower’s spiral staircase to reach the gallery deck, which delivers a sweeping panoramic view of Lake Michigan and the Door County peninsula.

Must see! Cool tractor ride across the shallow water to get to island where you can explore the grounds. Reading about the history was very interesting. We were not allowed up the lighthouse due to covid rules but still got to see a lot. Pit toilets available on the island. We spent about 30-45 min all total on the island

The Ridges Sanctuary

Reviewed By prheitzman - Chicago, United States

I wasn't sure what to expect from this place at first when reading the reviews but I think that this is a great stop for everyone. We have a 4 year old, and you could spend more than an hour in the nature center alone between the indoor craft activities (making lighthouses, nature crown) and the outdoor hands on fun- making mud pies, balancing on logs, watering cans... and they have bathroom facilities for before and after your hike. We walked down the main path to the boardwalk trail and then visited the 2 range lights and did a tour of the upper range light- the fee is included in your day use hiking fee. Then we walked down a few trails before heading back. There were a variety of trails and I would say the hiking was pretty easy/flat from the range lights to the shore area. There were lots of very pretty flowers in the park that I have not seen outside of the area. We were there for about 3 to 3 1/2 hrs. There was another trail that we wanted to take that was interactive for kids but we ran out of time. We would definitely recommend a visit.
