The name Eeklo comes from the contraction of "eke" and "lo", two Old German words meaning oak and sparse woods (compare English Oakley).

If you want to find some peace and enjoy nature this is the place to be. Free entrance and alot of paths to walk on. Some are hardened lanes but you can also choose for pure nature...make sure you wear the right shoes then because can be a bit muddy. Now is the time to see nature change and all the leafs have beautiful colours. Also alot of mushrooms to see. Just a perfect place to come to yourself..
