7 Sights & Landmarks in Clermont That You Shouldn't Miss

November 24, 2021 Marissa Gamble

Clermont is a small city in Florida, west of Orlando. Clermont, which is known as the “gem of the hills,” is surrounded by gently sloping hills in an otherwise flat state. The historic downtown has not changes much in 50 years. Clermont is also home to one of the first constructed landmarks in Florida: the Citrus Tower. When you are settled into Clermont, plan a visit the Citrus Tower. It was built in 1956 on one of the highest hills in the area and serves as a monument to Florida’s citrus industry. It stands 226 feet high and has a glass-enclosed observation deck at the top. You can also visit the Showcase of Citrus to pick your own oranges or take an eco-tour in a giant swamp buggy and enjoy a glimpse into Florida’s past. The entire family will enjoy a perfect day in the citrus groves. When visiting Clermont, be sure to visit Revolution: The Off-Road Experience. It is a unique off-road motor and sports venue perfect for families staying in vacation rentals in the area. You can ride ATVs and dune buggies, water ski, or go bass fishing. In Clermont, you can hike, bike, go boating, or drop your line in a lake and wait for the fish to bite. Play a round of golf on one of the many world-class golf courses in the area. Lakeridge Winery is Florida’s largest premium winery and offers winery tours and wine tastings seven days a week. A visit to the President’s Hall of Fame, with wax figures and White House memorabilia, is a perfect afternoon trip. A short drive away from Clermont, is Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios, and the bustling city of Orlando.

Blueberry Hill Farm

What a great opportunity to get some time outside with friends doing something relaxing and delicious. The staff are very friendly, prices are great, but most importantly there are excellent blueberries and a lot of them. Everything is set up so that it is easy to move around without being on top of other people. Definitely a full-filling tradition to make with kids.

Southern Hill Farms

This is a very popular farm. There is seasonal fruit and flower picking. There are a few rides open for the kids on weekends. The farm itself is beautiful. There is no admission cost, so it’s usually teeming with people. The farm itself is absolutely beautiful and the people who work there are very friendly and patient. The fruit we’ve purchased from the farm has been first class. This place is totally worth a visit.

Showcase of Citrus

Take a Monster Truck tour through a privately owned 2500 working Citrus and Cattle Ranch and pick citrus fresh from the tree during season (November-May). Enjoy an Old Time Country Store full of local goodies year round.

Great event you ride through the groves in a monster school bus learning so much about different types of oranges and why they look different on the tree than in the store. The tour continues through a swamp where you might end up seeing little alligators ending with seeing long horn steers and other animals in the outback Finish with oranges to buy and even wine tasting

Florida Citrus Tower

The Citrus Tower stands unrivaled as a majestic and monumental tribute to Central Florida’s famed citrus industry and its lush subtropical groves. With the area’s changing economic climate, the Tower serves as a beacon guiding a burgeoning new business and population base to the scenic South Lake County region. The original plans specified a tower of 75 feet, but when completed the Citrus Tower rose to a lofty height of 226 feet ( equivalent to 22 stories), the tip of the highest antenna pierces the sky at a point of 500 feet above sea level. The glass enclosed observation deck allows visitors to observe the panoramic view of the rolling hills of Florida’s ridge section and hundreds of spring-fed lakes in the surrounding 8 county area.

We had a blast at this attraction (even though we didn't use the arcade or other amenities). Even on an overcast day, you can still see quite far. We were fortunate to have the observation deck to ourselves for about 40 minutes. However, it's spacious enough that even with a large group you'd be comfortable. There's a short video on the ground floor that gives history of the tower. The only way to access is via elevator (no public stairs), so keep that in mind if you don't care for elevators. There are restrooms on the ground floor. We did have refreshments at the café. The staff members were kind and informative. We will visit again. The tower is right next to the Presidents Hall of Fame, and there's a small access driveway connecting that attraction with the Tower Plaza, which is where the tower is located.
