Old Edwards Club

Old Edwards Club is part of the Forbes Four-Star Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands, North Carolina. It is a members-only club that is also accessible by guests of Old Edwards Inn and Spa and 200 Main by Old Edwards. In addition to a Tom Jackson sculpted course, Old Edwards Club features a full clubhouse with The Grill Room, full bar, chimney terrace, fitness center and ladies and mens lounges. Also on property are clay tennis courts and an outdoor heated mineral pool. The course itself is an architectural marvel with inspiring views from elevated tees and greens cascading along the Eastern Continental Divide. Players of all levels enjoy perfect conditioning, warm southern hospitality and superb mountain golf. Jackson designed the course from the natural topography of the mountain plateau, providing a captivating 18-hole design with an intriguing dual personality. The front side lulls you into a serene mountain valley of greenery and meandering streams. As you approach the turn, a 250 foot ascent delivers you to the 10th tee giving you the feeling of being on top of the world. The next three holes take you around one of the highest ridges of golf on the east coast. Your final descent toward the clubhouse takes you alongside a shear granite cliff on the right-hand side of number 18.

Within Old Edwards Golf Club complex is the Grill Room and Bar. The latter has spectacular views, especialy from its outdoor dining deck, of the beautiful golf course and distant mountains, We had snacks at the bar and were hugely impressed by the service from the staff and the excellent choice of food and drinks. We enjoyed Madison's Chicken Sandwich and a fantastic Cheeseburger Wrap complete with sauces and condiments. Much of the credit for the great team at this exclusive club must go to the delightful general manager, Jonathan Austin. He even took us on a quick (hair raising!) cart tour of the final 9. What a course!

Whiteside Mountain Trail

Reviewed By LynnHC0822 - Birmingham, United States

Great views and well worth the effort. It's a loop trail, so you can start from the left path or the right path. The left path is an easier ascent, whereas the right path is steep with lots of step ups. I work out every day, and I was winded. The next time I do this trail, I'd take the left path up, go across the top to see the different views, then either descend the hard way down, or retrace my steps and go back down the easier path. Also, there is parking, but the later in the day you go, the less parking spot you'll find. I wouldn't want to drive all the way here, then can't hike because of no parking. You can't park on the street as it's a neighborhood.
