From the car park this is an easy walk out to the headland, with numerous lookouts over the harbour, the incredible sand blow and out to the Tasman Sea. Most of these are not fenced, so, make sure you keep the kids close, but there is no real danger as the track is wide, safe and well marked. Well worth the short diversion on the way to or from the giant trees nearby, or if you are visiting the nearby beaches.

Beautiful fresh water lake with golden Sandy beach. You can wade out 50-60m into the shallows and just be mesmerised by how clear the water is and how the light bounces through it. Really great spot for a picnic and there’s an outdoor play area for the kids. You’ll feel like you’ve missed out if you don’t check this out whilst on holiday in the area.

Trounson Kauri Park

An amazing 30 minute walk through a beautiful Kauri forest park. The path meanders through the park past hundreds of beautiful Kauri trees, but also, very sadly, past a number of trees dying from Kauri Die Back.

Baylys Beach

Excellent. This is right word for this beach. Simple but spacious with fine pure brownish white sand without gravel. A very nice place to relax stroll including dog walking, stretches for miles along the beach. It is also a longest driveable beach, a part of 107 km long beach from Maunganui Bluf to Pouto, visitors are able to drive 4WD vehicles or motorcycles by applying Road Code Rules. A bit short distance from the village centre, still in walking distance, there are several track walks available to access the beach.
