Chapel Rock and Beach

Reviewed By LM4U2 - St. George, United States

20 miles east from Munising, with the last 5 miles on dirt road. A couple small parts of the road are rough, but we went slow in a compact car and had no problems. We did the long loop to Chapel Falls, Chapel Rock, Chapel Beach, the Lakeshore Trail with stunning overviews of the Pictured Rocks, then the Mosquito Falls trail. My GPS read 11.8 miles, but much of the route is flat. It took us 6.5 hours including a long lunch break and a leisurely pace. There are ways to shorten the loop, but you would miss something very special if you did so. If you have the legs for it, and you are doing the scenic cruise, get the most out of Pictured Rocks National Loop by completing this loop! Trails are marked but in some spots it is tricky to find the trail.

What up son?! We're talkin $6 for wine tastings of 3 different beverages. We're talkin supportin the local community by selling wine from around the UP. We're talkin ultra nice staff who make you feel at home. One in the air for this place because it slaps. If you're in Munising then you need to be about this place. Stop in. Get some drank. Party. I myself, bought some Northern Lights Out blackberry wine which was right.

We stopped here on a whim and I'm so glad that we did! Open Wings includes artwork from several different artists, including ceramics, textiles, photography, woodwork, metalwork/jewelry, etc. Many items are great souvenirs with images of the UP, Michigan, or Lake Superior, a good selection was functional in that you could eat/cook with it or wear it (gloves and hats), and others are simply beautiful artwork. I happily purchased a ceramic mug with the image of the UP on it as well as some local jam. Definitely a great alternative to the other kitschy souvenir stores in Munising (although don't get me wrong, I love that stuff too ha!). More on the expensive side, but I think there was something for every price point, and the art is hand made and local after all!

Miners Falls

It is about a half mile walk back to the falls. The trail is mostly flat and is gravel. The forest you walk through is not super dense but is pretty and has some interesting trees, lots of birds chirping. This is a popular trail so get to the parking lot early to secure a spot. When you arrive at the falls their is an upper and lower platform for viewing, the lower offers an amazing view.

Wagner Falls

Reviewed By Steve5863 - Avon, United States

Wagner Falls is one of the more impressive falls in the Munising area and is located on a 22 acre site maintained by the Michigan DNR having a small parking area on the southside of M-94 just 0.3 miles (0.5k) west of its junction with M-28. From the parking area, the falls are reached by taking a mostly flat, well-maintained trail 0.5 miles (0.8k), through a pretty pine and hemlock forest, to a viewing platform where one will see the falls as it cascades beautifully down a dolomite outcropping with the single highest drop being approximately 20 feet (6.1m). Being one of the nicer falls in the area, this site is quite popular and is even visited by tour groups; if you see a tour bus in the parking lot, we would recommend coming back at a different time as the capacity of the trail and viewing platform is limited.

This year was a little different than two years ago when I was there. there are more handrails, the edge of the cliff seemed narrower and the sand is very slick but it is one of my favorite waterfalls. DO NOT wear flip-flops! wear good shoes with traction.
