We recently visited Matala for the weekend and we came across this picturesque lovely little workshop! A very friendly and eager to help you at any time couple own this shop and we had the chance to see the artist create her amazing and colorful paintings in front of us.We bought a beautfil handmade silver ring which she was very helpful and she adjusted it to my wife's finger size and also a painting. The wrapping for the painting was really professional as it was our concern how to bring it home safe. Dear Nikos and Katerina, thank you for everything, we will visit you again soon to see the painting once it's finished!

Red Sand Beach (Kokkini Ammos)

We found this beach accidentally when coming to see Matala, and decided to follow the path and take a hike to this beach. Amazing hike thru the mountain, breathtaking views on the way. It takes about 30 min to get tot he beach from the parking, but so so worth it! Hidden beach, with only one “Mojito” bar in the entire beach away from all the touristy vibe. It is a nudist beach, so be prepared. Water is AMAZING, so clean and you can swim forever. One of the best beaches in Crete for sure.

Matala beach

Absolute must see when in Heraklion or Rethimno region, as this beach has so mich to offer. First, the beach itself - sandy, shallow water just for couple of meters, followed by clean, blue, calm see where you have a wide bay to swim around. At the very beach beside sunbeds and umbrellas there are trees in which shade you can spread your towel and hide from the midday sun. Then there are several cliffs from which you can safely jump and dive into water, that is neither hot nor cold. Further you will see the caves that used to be Minoan graves and later shelters of those who wanted peace and solitude. Last but not least, there is wonderful, picturesque village with market, shops, restaurants and bars where you can savour local flavours and dishes. It is live and vibrant the whole day long :) this beach is absolute winner this year.

Agio Farago (Gorge of Saints)

This place is simply a great place to climb and swim all in one day. There are bolted routes on the beach! The swimming and snorkeling was great! It wasn't very crowded and it seems like only the locals go there. Great spot for people who don't want to be around other tourists!
