The Polar Bear Society is located on the coastal steamer pier, together with Hammerfest’s Tourist Information. Join the world famous and exclusive society, and receive the Polar Bear Pin as proof that you visited the World’s Northernmost Town – Hammerfest! Our museum showcases our proud traditions with fishing and hunting in arctic conditions. There is also a gift shop. You can only become a member in the Polar Bear Society when you visit Hammerfest in person. A membership costs NOK 220,00 as a one time fee. The money supports the exhibition and pays the components of the membership: the Polar Bear pin in silver and enamel, a sticker with our logo on, a diploma with your name on signed by the mayor of Hammerfest, a membership card with your own membership number.

Located at the tourist office this is a great little museum. There are plenty of stuffed birds if you are into birds as well as some of the mammals of the area. Info boards with the history makes this a good place to stop.

I popped in for a beer on my final night in Hammerfest, and ended up staying for several (as is all to often the case)! Service was really friendly, there's nice views over the harbour and the prices are reasonable by local standards. It seems to be popular with locals and visitors alike (it was the only place I came across another English person in my time in Hammerfest!) There's an excellent selection of draught beers- I particularly recommend the Lervig.

Our excursion with Hurtigruten took us to this viewpoint where there is a wonderful view of the harbour and surroundings. Other passengers walked to it and we all agreed this place was worth visiting.

The pillar recognises the the work by the Russian astonnomer and scientist Friedrich Struve who was the leader of a team who helped determine the shape and figure of the Earth. There is plenty of information by the monument and some great views over the harbour.

I read before being there about this church while I was doing my documentation for the trip. It made me curios, and it worth to visit it. First the person in charge was so nice to wait us to visit it as it was supposed to close. Unfortunately, He was not speaking English, for sure we should have get more information, but I remeber his kindness to let us share the beauty of this church. It is a modern church but If you read on visitnorway site you can have the information to know what to look for: the shape like the drying fish racks, the stainless glass behind the altar brings such a colored light that makes you fell joy and peace, the wood carvings on the organ wall, the stone mosaic behind the altar made from norvegian stones. Allocate half an hour and you will not regret it. It seems that also the reindeers love it as the are "parking" close to it for rest.
