7 Classes & Workshops in Versailles That You Shouldn't Miss

April 7, 2022 Lean Nau

This former unofficial capital of France sits just 10 miles from Paris and is easily reachable by train. Even though the Chateau de Versailles has been known as the epitome of indulgent luxury for centuries, seeing it in person is a jaw-dropping experience. The chateau's magnificent gardens are free, but it's worth shelling out for a day ticket to see the interior—although it does make going back to even a fancy hotel seem rather humdrum.

La Cuisine de Bertrand

Dont forget to combine your Versailles Palace visit with a cooking class and a dinner with a local family! Bertrand will teach you easy to reproduce everyday french recipes. Located in front of the 350 years old King's Garden, La Cuisine de Bertrand uses fruit and vegetables grown there for the dishes preparation. Participants will then discover some unusual species such as Blue hubbard squashes or Calville blanc d'hiver apples. Once the 3 course meal is prepared, all attendees dinne together with Bertrand and his wife. For those who just want to share a dinner with a french family in their home, La Cuisine de Bertrand also organise wine and cheese dinners on weekdays.

My daughter and I had her cooking class arranged by our travel agent. This class was a breath of fresh air and wonderful gem. She was a fantastic teacher with a lot of patience allowing for a special hands on experience. Her kitchen was immaculate, and it was a great way to learn about the fresh and unique techniques of classic French cooking. We would highly recommend her to anyone!

I'm an American and Le Cordon Bleu Paris Pastry graduate living in Versailles teaching French Pastry classes. In 2013, I changed careers to pursue my passion by moving to France, studying at Le Cordon Bleu and then working at several bakeries in both the US and France. Now, I'm living full time in Versailles (just near the Chateau), and teaching classes out of my 19th century classic Versaillais apartment. I welcome small groups for classes on Macarons, Tarts, Mille Feuille, and more!
