Kyaiktiyo Pagoda

A unique shrine - you must visit here! BUT, be prepared: 1. The only transport is a cargo vehicle adapted for the transport of pilgrims. 2. A huge number of pilgrims. 3. Women are not allowed directly to the stone. 4. Constant strong wind at the top. 5. Remember that you will have to enter the territory of the shrine without shoes! 6. I advise you not to forget to buy a piece of gold leaf to add it to the stone!

Kyaikthanlan Pagoda

This is the Pagoda described by Kipling in the Road to Mandalay (By the old Mawlymayne Pagoda....). It is the biggest tourist attraction in Mawlymayne and the favourite sunset viewpoint. Another pagoda is listed and people are inaccurateley posting reviews of this pagoda to that one. It is a large Bhuddist pagoda with viewing area.

Win Sein Taw Ya - Reclining Buddha

Reviewed By MettaTraveller - Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar

Mawlamyaine is a worth visiting city, with many tourist attraction sites including the great Golden Rock Pagoda(Kyaik Htee Yoe Pagoda) On the way, you can drop in to this Reclining Buddha, which has many floors inside the statue(4 or 5 I can't remember) where you can learn about the previous lives of Gatama Buddha. The dead body of founder monk, Win Sein Taw Ya Sayadaw, can be seen inside the building near the Buddha image. It is said the monk became 'Arahat' or 'Person having attained Nivana'. It is a must to see. The sad story about the Buddha Statue is that the construction of the statue haven't finished yet because of financial problem. And need donations. Opposite to reclining Buddha statue, there is also another reclining Buddha statue under construction. I don't think both Statue will be 100% finished construction. The founder monk was very famous and many Buddhists contributed donations. Upon the death of monk, no more donation.
