Not only somewhere to walk round and look at exhibits, but they have a mini reference Library/reading room with loads of local books and directories dating back many Years. The Staff are loaded with information about the Town too.

The museum can be found on the Sea Brows overlooking the Cumbrian town of Maryport on the edge of the Solway Firth Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. At the western end of the Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site, the museum displays the fascinating collection of artefacts discovered at the adjacent Roman fort and civilian settlement. Visitors can explore people's lives and beliefs from 2000 years ago. The museum is housed in a Victorian Naval Reserve Training Battery and is a registered charity. To keep our visitors safe we have instigated a number of measures following Government and industry specific guidelines. We have the Visit Britain 'Good to Go' accreditation.

Really enjoyable visit to this museum. The collection was varied and interesting, and the explanations informative. Good broader contextual material, and good resources for children. Very friendly staff.

Great day playing on karts Great safety Well run Excellent for groups of all ages Would advise do not eat beforehand as you get jostled about during racing which can make you feel queezy Drinks are available. Well worth a visit

The Lake District Coast Aquarium is a well established visitor attraction situated on the harbourside of Maryport, a small town with Roman roots on the scenic Solway Firth coastline. The Aquarium displays contain mainly native species and are fully documented, so of interest to all generations and levels of interest. Tickets allow re-entry all day so the full range of aquarist talks and feeding demonstrations can be enjoyed. The aquarium has a popular Cafe serving a wide range of meals and refreshments overlooking the harbour. The Cafe is open every day to all comers, including those with well behaved dogs! During cold weather a wood burning stove provides a cosy atmosphere. The Gift shop is popular with locals as well as visitors thanks to a wide range of themed goods, ranging from pocket money toys to household furnishings. The aquarium doesn’t look much from the outside but ... get inside and there’s a great family fun educational experience. Awaiting you ... as a family group of grandparents parents and children we all thoroughly enjoyed our time there ... it’s so great to get up close to what’s in the waters around our shores and further afield ... and being able to interact too with the rays and the starfish .. we found out about there habitats etc There is also a great gift shop and a cafe with cakes to die for ... mini golf a play park and amusements with remote control boats ... we all loved our time there and deffo will be back
