April 13, 2022 Concepcion Newsome

The home to Yale University since 1701, the city of New Haven is packed with an unrivaled collection of arts and antiquities, with collections ranging from natural history specimens to antique musical instruments. The towering translucent marble cube of the Beinecke Library contains 600,000 rare volumes, including one of the only surviving Gutenberg Bibles. The Yale University Art Gallery is as famous for its collection as it is for its building, a Modernist masterpiece designed by Louis Kahn.

Cafe Nine

We love Cafe Nine and have gone there many times over the years. It is a cozy bar and a wonderful space to discover and listen to music, with a respectful and enthusiastic audience. Good selection of beers and a very friendly atmosphere. It would be nice if they could keep latecomers from blocking the view of people who arrived earlier. Note that there is a cover charge for live music.

Toad's Place

It smells like old beer, and the crowd is young, but Toad's has been around forever and they have had some of the biggest and best bands/acts there. It is definitely a staple of the New Haven music scene.

Zafra Cuban Restaurant & Rum Bar

Reviewed By fooddogg

My family came for Thanksgiving and absolutely loved the food and atmosphere at Zafra. We first ordered a selection of the rum flights, which was delicious! The owner, Dom, who is a somewhat rum-guru explained each of the bottles, its flavors, and origins. For our appetizers, we had the Havana Sampler, which offered a variety of different tastes. It was some of the best Cuban food we've had! The Platano Relleno and Picadillo were delicious. The service at Zafra is exceptional! The people are friendly and willing to accommodate. I definitely recommend coming here for drinks or dinner.
