6 Water & Amusement Parks in Great Barrier Reef That You Shouldn't Miss

December 23, 2021 Kandra Bartel

The world's largest coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef stretches almost 1500 miles into the Pacific from the tip of Queensland. Designated a Marine Park by the Australian government and a World Heritage Area by UNESCO, the reef is home to an extraordinary abundance of species and habitats. Snorkeling, diving and fishing are rightly popular along the reef, nowhere more so than on the Whitsunday Islands, where the silica sands and aqua waters of the Coral Sea create the perfect beach escape.

If you are in Mackay and you enjoy water sports then Wakehouse is a must visit. Great facilities, staff that are passionate about wakeboarding and great coffee and food from the lakeside cafe. Also the aquapark is a great option to get the kids out on the water.

Cairns Wake park

Fun way to spend a day in Cairns! Recommending going with a 4-hour pass as the time will fly by! If you are a beginner, you will need to start with a couple of passes on the kneeboard to get a feel of your balance on the water, before moving on to the board where you will need a few more passes before you can complete a full run. Between your ability to stand up, turn & keep up, and the amount of people also enjoying their day at the Wake park (plus a few mechanical problems...) you will find that half a day is what you really need to make the most of it! Recommend. Enjoy!

Have come up to cairns from canberra to be in the middle of a storm! Today the rain held off and my kids had a ball here. I met a friend who lives nearby and her girls .there are options for all ages and those areas for older kids are locked off . So you can let the kids go. Wry well thought out and I could let my 5 yr old just go. He still had a life vest just in case but was fine
