Definitely not a 4 star standard hotel

A generous size room with a large bathroom. Room clearly newly decorated, lovely curtains and complementary fresh wall paint, however the furniture is very dated and tired looking. It spoils the room, the wardrobe had old fashioned net curtains couldn't understand if they were to replace wooden panels so certainly require reviewing. There was a broken lock on the wardrobe what appears to be used to close the doors in the past but defeats any purpose now. The doors don't close. My child had good fun spinning the unsecured glass top on the center table but soon realised the danger when she hit herself by accident on the unsecured glass tops that overlapped the bed side lockers. Unsecured glass tops on furniture are not safe in family rooms. I had to explain to my girl that there should have been plastic grips that the glass is only a protector. It gave the room a shabby look rather than shabby chic. I was totally surprised with no information what so ever in the bedroom. I had to ring reception to request info and ask for leisure facility times. Reception provided incorrect information and the leisure facilities staff stated reception is always doing that. Delighted to sleep in my own bed after the stay in the Abbey and experiencing the renovations. It certainly put me off hotels seeing the conditions of the bases/ mattresses. There was no duty manager working. Overall very poor for what could have been a very promising positive vacation if attention to detail was provided or managers on site.

Gleeson's Townhouse Hotel & Restaurant

Gleeson’s Roscommon is that most authentic of hospitality establishments – a fine historic building lovingly restored and maintained. It’s a family business, established by Eamonn and Mary Gleeson and now managed by their daughter Cáit. It is run with guests in mind and is beautifully appointed yet comfortable and welcoming to all. At Gleeson’s the ‘fáilte’ is genuine. The 150 year old townhouse comprises 19 bedrooms, a café, Manse Restaurant, function room and conference room. Gleeson’s also offer an outside catering service. Head Chef Kieran Brennan has created exceptional menus using the best of local produce including organic lamb from Gleeson’s own family farm, quality beef from local butcher Tommy Madden, free range chicken from Ray Gannon, organic Gannon’s Eggs, organic salad leaves from Mill House Farm and award-winning puddings from Kelly’s Butchers Newport. The herbs are fresh from the garden, grown by Mary Gleeson. The extensive wine list features a variety of organic and exclusive wines available to us from smaller artisan vineyards. The newly refurbished Manse Restaurant features original paintings from local artist Rita Oates including a specially commissioned, dramatic large artwork. The new Whiskey Bar is a wonderful way to learn about the fascinating world of whiskey through tastings and tips.

Lovely location, lovely people

Recently spent a weekend here with my family - our third visit - and once again cannot fault the service. The staff here really can't do enough for you, they bend over backwards to make sure guests are comfortable and are great with people with challenging needs. It really feels like you've make friends with everyone involved. The rooms are comfortable and the location, on the grounds of Donamon Castle, is lovely. There was a community event on while we were there and it was great to see so many families come along to enjoy the live music and various stalls and other events. Once again, the food in the restaurant (which I believe is open to non-residents) was top class, served in a pleasant atmosphere and the staff don't ever seem put out by special requests. The bar area is large and there's entertainment laid on regularly. My mum was brilliantly looked after and really enjoyed her weekend. Thanks to all concerned once again.

Only if you’re desperate

Reviewed By 118annemarien

When we arrived, we were allowed to check in early to one of our rooms and we did because we thought we could leave our bags there. When we went into the room, it was obvious that it hadn’t been cleaned yet. The bed was unmade and there were empty water bottles lying around. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned yet either. We handed back the key and informed staff of the situation. We checked in again later in the day, and later on that night when we returned to our rooms, I noticed in my room that the bathroom filled with the stench of sewage whenever the toilet was flushed, the bulb in the bedside lamp was blown, there was no toilet paper in the dispenser, the tiles in the shower were mouldy, and there were no hangers in the wardrobe. The duvet did not have a cover on it. As the restaurant and front desk were closed by the time we discovered these problems, there was no-one around to fix them. I would only recommend this place if you’re absolutely desperate.
