Reviewed By reijo2020It’s very rare that hotel gyms are this good. Happy with all other aspects as well. If weather is hot, don’t forget to ask for remote control for air condition. Food store in the same building. Good parking lot.

Reviewed By Frank RFriendly staff. Convenient, Room comfortable. Some pleasant evening cafes in road behind hotel, with colourful street lighting. The staff was gracious, professional and warm from the moment we arrived. Excellent free wi-fi- everything we hoped for and more. Loved it and will come back.

Garden oasis in the mountains
Reviewed By Klara BLovely small place located next to a church from 1200 at the edge of the village. There is a beautiful garden to relax in, and a very friendly cat to cuddle. We arrived after a long hike in Campo Imperatore, and when we expressed the desire for a drink, we were served a beer at the table outside. The owners are very kind and it's truly an oasis of relaxation. (And the restaurant next door was incredible value for money.) We asked for two single beds, which were very narrow indeed. Not really a problem, just uncommon for me, as I'm used to 90-100 cm for singles.

a holiday like in the past
Reviewed By Ig_1978I am a local, in the sense that I have spent my childhood and teenager years in Isola del Gran Sasso (the largest town in the neighborhood) and I often visit my parents, still living there. Therefore I know this area very well. This year my wife and I went to Casale San Nicola for 6 days to run away from the hot weather and chaos of the valley. No choice could be better! Casale San Nicola is a small village in the mountains and hosts about 200 inhabitants. There are no touristic facilities, but this Hotel. One can find several trails leading to nearby villages (San Pietro, Forca di Valle, Fano a Corno, etc), to mountain churches (Eremo San Nicola) or picnic areas (Fonte Nera). One can in principle reach La Madonnina (2000m), the Franchetti hut (2400m) and Corno Piccolo and Corno Grande (2900m), but this would take a few hours of hiking and requires a bit of training. In principle one could easily spend one or two weeks hiking around, and even more if one wants to use a car to visit other touristic spots of the Gran Sasso massif, using Casale as a base. The rhythms of Casale are slow. There is no noise, no mess, no traffic and no chaos. The only aggregation center is the bar of the hotel, and its restaurant as well, where one can find a few people in the evenings. An exception to this is the yearly sagra of Pecora alla Callara, where the whole village hosts a gastronomic fair dedicated to old sheep cooked in the traditional way (I love it!). Hotel Casale fits perfectly in these settings. It is a small hotel, which has always been run by the same family. The rooms are a bit old (from the 80s, I guess), but very clean. They have comfortable beds and everything is so calm and fresh in the nights that sleep is magic. The hotel restaurant is also great. They serve very good food, portions are abundant and prices are cheap, even for Abruzzo standards (count 10-12 euros per person for a main dish and wine or around 20 euros per person for a complete meal). Breakfast is all right, but is in old Italian style. This means that one may expect to find homemade cakes, croissant, jam and nutella. No salty food, at least by default. However, I am sure that one could get a small continental breakfast by asking the hotel staff a bit in advance. The hotel staff is kind and helpful, and I can only spend words of appreciation for them. In short, I really recommend this place for those who are looking for calm, relax and good food. People who look for a hectic holiday, however, should look somewhere else, maybe along the coast. My wife and I will surely go back to Casale next summer!

In the period of July and August we advice you to use the electronic mail if it is desired to receive an answer in satisfactory time. As to arrive - from the slope tirrenico: Highway A/24 - exit at " Colledara - San Gabriele", then take the direction "Isola del Gran Sasso" at about 5 kms, from "Isola del Gran Sasso" to continue for 2 kms around direction "San Giovanni ad Insulam". - From the adriatic slope: Highway A/14 - exit "Mosciano Sant`Angelo", therefore to take the SS80 in direction Teramo and at "Montorio al Vomano" to continue along the SS 491, arrival later around 13 kms ( 2 kms before arriving to "Isola del Gran Sasso"). (You see map) - in train Line Milan-Lecce, to go down to the station of Giulianova, therefore to continue up to Teramo and then to continue by car. ( To have more information as to reach Isola del Gran Sasso in train uses the site of the railroads of the State Trenitalia.) - In airplane Airport of Abruzzo in Pescara - to arrive to Milan or Turin therefore to take the coincidence for Pescara and then to continue by car or train. What to visit -The sanctuary of S. Gabriele dell`Addolorata. The complex is constituted from the new basilica from the ancient church and from the convent. The basilica has been built in 1970 and can entertain over 10.000 Believers. Restored at the end of 1500, the ancient church entertains the grave of S. Gabriele, and it has frescos that remember the life of the saint. The convent goes up again to 1200 with its well of S. Francis and the cloister of the XVI century. The monks Passionists of the sanctuary organize every summer the Tendopoli that recalls thousand of young people. Inside the sanctuary the Museum Stauros of sacred art can be visited. - The historical Center preserve still the signs of his suggestive past, desert and silent roads, rich of echi and of ancient meoirs, so holds that the houses seem aloft to touch themselves, windows elegantly drawn. - The "Castle of the Island", closed by three doors, surrounded by ditch and strong for Nature because inclusive the two rivers Ruzzo and Mavone. - The "Chiesa Madre" with portal of Matteo di Napoli (1420), the 1500 Baptismal Source, the Panel in maiolica of Andrea Pompei of Castelli, the ostensorio of the 1400 of a foreign goldsmith. - The sixteenth-century palazzetto with portal in stone and 1500 inside cortiletto, the sixteenth-century bifora. - The chapel of S. Sebastiano with frescos of Andrea de Litio, out to the boundaries. - The Church of S. Leonardo with baroque wooden altar - the Church of the Madonna delle Grazie and that of S.
