We showed up to don det without any places booked. And stumbled across this place. There were three of us in one three bed room. Good air con clean rooms and comfortable enough beds! Overall it was a decent stay and in a pretty good location. I would recommend booking any tours through the company that they promote/are partnered with. That was a disaster so avoid that

We hadn't pre booked anywhere to stay and after checking out a few of the cabin-esque guesthouses we ended up walking past here and thought we would just find out the price. It was 250,000 kip a night which worked out about £21.50 so not dramatically over our budget but definitely higher than we had planned to spend. But the swimming pool won us over and the air conned rooms! Shower was warm, beds reasonably comfy for Asia. We used the laundry service 1kg for 8,000 kip and it was done to a good standard. Breakfast was quite simple but we enjoyed it. Food otherwise wasnt as great but there are nicer places to have lunch and dinner on the island (check out Mama Tanon's and Kea's backpackers restaurant). Our big concern was the door to the room, it was quite easy to open without a key as we found out when we accidentally locked the key in the room. And the room had no safe so we ended up taking all our valuables everywhere with us which was a bit of a nuisance. Overall would reccomend this place. Oh and it has beautiful sunset views!

A wonderful big clean room with a glorious hot shower - much needed for two stinking travellers! I did however leave a personal item behind and can’t seem to find contact details to see if it was found. Please get in touch with me Dalom, it would be much appreciated! Xx

We stayed here 2 weeks, end of may&beginning of june. The rooms have everything inside you need; AC, fan, waterboiler, minibar, and a TV. Each bungalow has a little balcony with a table and 2 chairs. We had bungalow 5, which gave us a nice view of the garden and the Mekong. The owners are very friendly people. The hotel offers tours and busrides and whatnot, I have used their service for 5-6 times for different things (over the past 6months), and was always satisfied with the service. The hotel has a restaurant on site with relaxing view of the Mekong. Right in front of the hotel is a Shawarma place, which serves great food as well! Don't be scared to book because of the fact it's a bungalow, the bungalows here are better than any other bungalow on the island, no animals inside, clean, plus all needed amenities are there. My special compliments to the Champasak student who checked me in, and arranged a private boat for me to Nakasong at the time all foreigners were leaving and boats were scarce. The next time I will come to Don Det for a weekend, I will book here! Oh, and the matresses are very good, I slept like a baby at this place!

The Last Resort is a travelling community located on the Sunset Side of Don Det, in the majestic Sipandon region of Laos. Nestled astride the Mekong river, The Last Resort is made up of a handful of beautiful teepees, constructed using only locally sourced materials, in keeping with the age old tradition of the island. More than just a guest house, The Last Resort attracts like minded individuals who are seeking a more natural and communal alternative to the other accommodation available on the island. The teepees are positioned serenely between working, traditional Laos gardens where herbs, fruits and vegetables are grown and used to prepare daily food, a nightly fire with surrounding benches for relaxing in the evening and a rock oven used to make fresh bread and sweet treats! In addition to regular cinema nights on our big screen on the beach, the Last Resort Beach Bar also hosts weekly parties and is open daily for food and drinks to be enjoyed whilst sunbathing and swimming in the Mekong river.
Treat yourself and stay in a teepee at The Last Resort. Growing up on Don Det, Ken is the man to speak to although there’s always a helping hand. Warning - you will stay longer than initially planned.
