Stop over on the way to the north

Wanted to break a trip from Cornwall to Darlington so wanted somewhere approximately half way that was close to the motorway. Wanted somewhere clean & comfortable. Location was ideal. Bed was comfy. Staff at reception were friendly. The bedroom was clean & ok. The bathroom looked tired & needed a bit of a makeover. Although the key things ie toilet, sink & shower were clean, behind the door needed a wipe along with some marks on the wall. The price was good & would stay again. You do need to close the bathroom door when showering, (there are signs asking you to), otherwise the fire alarm is activated. Someone in the hotel ignored this & it went off early in the morning. Not the hotels fault but was inconvenient to other guests who were using the bathroom at the same time!

Excellent place to stay

What a great place to stay!!! From the moment we entered the hotel until we left we felt welcome. The receptionist was great, very happy, smiling, friendly and helpful. The room was huge, could have got another double bed in there!!! Bedding was very white, bed very comfortable, clean white soft towels, good size bathroom. Plenty of room to move about. Kettle, tea/coffee etc. Couldn't fault it in any way. Will certainly return when next visiting family. Thank you very much for an excellent stay.

Awful

I have contacted the Hotel two times in regards to my stay but no one has got back to me. Avoid this hotel, the service and facilities are very poor. Arrived at 20.30 in the evening and the bar was closed so unable to get a drink after travelling. The car park is full of young children climbing the trees and in general just hanging around so stayed in our room. Swimming pool was closed. Breakfast an absolute disgrace, no cups to get a tea or coffee and staff not apologetic or helpful. No cereal, bread was being grabbed by other guests and for some bizarre reason the boiled eggs were in the same basket as the tea bags. Left without breakfast as basically it was dirty and no staff member ever appeared bothered or helpful. Appalling. I could go on but this Hotel is well aware of my complaint and have done nothing !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Disgraceful

Lasted here less than 1 hour!

I felt inclined to write a review after our recent ‘experience’ of this hotel. My other half booked it last minute wed- sat over the jubilee bank holiday. We wanted to stay somewhere close to Birmingham where we could visit lots of places and have days out. The reason my partner booked this is because it had a pool which we felt we could use with our two young children and through booking.com we had a half board deal where each adult had £25 allowance each per night (drinks not included) we thought this was ideal as it would save wandering around looking for somewhere to eat each night. We arrived and check in was a bit slow because they didn’t seem to be aware that we were entitled to half board as well as breakfast. The member of staff ‘Ennis’ I think it was was so friendly and helpful but she called a man who I assume was management and he had a real chip on his shoulder! He told us to take it up with booking.com- totally palming us off. When my other half showed his confirmation email they soon back tracked and the guy was a bit miffed and said ‘that’s a ridiculously good price’ - yes- hence why we booked it!! However, the saying if it sounds to good to be true it usually is couldn’t have been more appropriate in this situation! On walking to our room you could see the pool was completely empty - no water in it- I wish this had been communicated to us upon booking and not finding out when getting there. The hotel is dated and in need of a hood upgrade but it appeared clean enough. When we got to the room it was really dark and dingy. Bits of wallpaper were ripped off the wall, a hole in the net curtain and after opening the door to the bathroom there was a terrible smell from the toilet! My other half went to get our bags from the toilet but the thought of spending 3 nights in this room filled me with dread. I rang reception and asked if we could either move rooms or have it cleaned. The toilet was clean but the smell was obviously coming from the drain or just the fact it was old. The lady from reception came to clean the toilet (bless her) and she apologised and said she would keep us in mind for another room as they were fully booked. We decided to take the hit and just cancel and book somewhere else. If I was only staying there one night I may have persevered but not 3 nights. The culmination of everything just meant we didn’t want to stay there. We told the lady at reception and she was very apologetic. It wasn’t her fault. The bedding and towels etc appeared clean but the place needs a good overhaul. We ended up staying in crowne plaza and what a difference!! It’s a shame really because I’m sure with some investment it could be a lovely hotel. I felt so sorry for the lovely lady on reception who must get lots of hassle based on the state of hotel! After leaving the hotel I then read reviews and was glad I didn’t have to eat the food after all!
