Friendly, helpful staff, fabulous facilities and a unique 'hot laps' experience. Highly recommend extending your visit with a stay at the Rydges Pit Lane hotel. A must for any motor-sport fan.

Old Tailem Town

Australia's largest Pioneer Village- an hour's drive from Adelaide

Reviewed By _ashram77_ - Adelaide, Australia

Take a step back in South Australia's history and enter the abandoned Old Tailem Town. It is as if the residents suddenly got tired of the unrelenting hot summer winds howling through the trees, threw caution to the wind and left with only what they could carry. Perhaps they were wiped out by disease, or chased off by blood-thirsty mob of emus? Whatever their fate the town now lies deserted and ripe for exploration. Unlike other Australian pioneer experiences you won't find fake actors here, you'll need to unleash your imagination to create the characters in this town. In this way the town and its story becomes whatever you want it to be. Much personal time and money has gone into preserving South Australian history with many of the buildings and props having been transported from elsewhere in the state and collected over years. Without Old Tailem Town it is simply impossible to find this number of original buildings of this age and design all in the one place anywhere else in Australia. You'll want to spend a good 3-5 hours here if you want to see everything the town has to offer. Don't forget your camera and if you're so inclined dress in early 1900's attire for a particularly nostalgic day. Not many people have selfies from this era!
