This is not a big party town. It is small and quiet and quaint. Nice restaurants and amazing Beaches that stretch for kilometers in both directions. We are returning for a longer relaxing stay.

There is a trail that goes around the perimeter of the peninsula. You can see parakeets, herons and other water fowl. The views are awesome.

Took the horses down here after a long ride and went swimming with them in a quite part of this lagoon. This is a very quiet spot but further down you can enjoy windsurfing and kite Surfing or just sit on the empty beach.

We first met WIne Experience Owner Ryan Hamilton when he picked us up at our hotel. He whisked us off to the first winery established in the Punta Del Este area, Alto de la Ballena, Ryan is a great host, easy conversationalist, and knowledgeable wine guide. He introduced to Paula, the vineyard proprietor. The two guided us thru a wonderful tasting in a very scenic overlook above the vineyards.
Next we were off to Playa Vik, and got a tour of that breathtaking property in Jose Ignacio, overlooking the sea. Ryan treated us to a tasting of his personal wine collection, while we noshed and looked out over the infinity pool at the sunset.
This is a private setting you will never see unless you pony up the very substantial hotel tariff. And Ryan's hospitality and wine knowledge is a joy to experience, in such beautiful surroundings. For anyone visiting Jose Ignacio, La Barra, or Punta del Este who has any interest in wine at all, this is a tour you should absolutely not miss.

We scheduled a two hour horseback ride with Haras Godiva in November 2014, and it was a highlight of our trip to Jose Ignacio! The horses and equipment are all top notch, and our guides were very friendly despite the fact that they did not speak much English. The ride was very scenic and included a portion on the beach with a nice view of Jose Ignacio and the lighthouse. After the ride, snacks and drinks were included.

Enjoyed yoga while on vacation at The Shack. The instructor was very knowledgable and lovely. Also someone else walked around making adjustments....she was magical! She also does massages, which I would have loved to done, but was leaving that night on a flight and didn't have time!
