Buin Zoo

This zoo is really well put together, has some good animals(especially the monkeys and giraffes) and is a great family day.
The food inside is also pretty inexpensive or you can also bring your own.
You can drive or also take the train from Estacion Central directly to the zoo (about 40 minutes or so?). Beware that on busy holiday weekends it may be hard to get space on the train for the way back.

Museo Andino

We came here because we visited the Santa Rita winery, but it's well worth leaving Santiago for in its own right. Modern, well presented and wide-reaching (and with everything translated into good English). The Easter Island stuff and the 11000 bc display, as well as much else, is very good. (And they have wifi!!).

Before coming to Chile, I'd not heard of Haras de Pirque. Luckily, Wines and Barrels brought me here for a tour and premium tasting when I asked them to arrange a day in Maipo Valley for me. The wine tasting and tour were great, but the standout was the amazing view.
