Connemara Smokehouse

A catch destined for the Connemara Smokehouse, the irresistible aroma is often carried on soft breezes throughout the countryside. It assails your senses when near Ballyconneely. Connemara Smoked Salmon, on brown soda bread. Unique to Ireland. The Connemara Smokehouse is located right on the water’s edge at Bunowen Pier, and the surrounding area has exceptional views of the Twelve Bens mountain range, the castle of Connaught’s historic Pirate Queen, Grainne Mhoal (Grace O’Malley). It is also renowned for its breeding of the world famous Connemara Pony which can be seen in fields towards the Smokehouse. This area contains some of the most tranquil, unspoilt and rugged landscapes with beautiful clear water and sandy beaches. Smokehouse Tours seasonally during the summer months June, July and August (FRENCH) Tuesday & Thursday at 3pm sharp! (ENGLISH)Wednesday at 3pm sharp! Booking is advisable. We also welcome Group Tours & School Groups all year round by appointment only. In our Smokehouse Tour you will watch Graham or Nicolas hand fillet and traditionally prepare the salmon, explain the salting and smoking techniques, then show the hand slicing and packing of the finished product. You will enjoy a tasting of our fantastic smoked salmon. We are sure you will then want to buy some to take home, or to eat while you are here on holiday or to send to friends and family as a gift.
