May 12, 2022 Kelli Reichel

Wheeling is a city in Ohio and Marshall counties in the U.S. state of West Virginia. Located almost entirely in Ohio County, of which it is the county seat, it lies along the Ohio River in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Wheeling was originally a settlement in the British colony of Virginia and later an important city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Wheeling was the first state capital of West Virginia. Due to its location along major transportation routes, including the Ohio River, National Road, and the B&O Railroad, Wheeling became a manufacturing center in the late nineteenth century. After experiencing the closing of factories and substantial population loss following World War II, Wheeling's major industries now include healthcare, education, law and legal services, entertainment and tourism, and energy.

Hubby and I wanted to enjoy our take-out lunch and stopped at the park. It is incredibly lovely with a small lake, ducks and picnic tables to sit and enjoy the view. There is plenty of parking so you can walk around and get your exercise. In addition, we learned of their indoor pool and skating rink. golf course as well so it's a park that can be enjoyed year round. What a great place to visit. It was a good time for us since the leaves were turning and the sight was incredible.

Oglebay Good Zoo

Home to 50 species of animals, 20 of which are rare or endangered, the Good Zoo is the only institution in the state of West Virginia accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Reviewed By 657kristij - Hilliard, United States

This is a small zoo and the main building is worth the price of admission for the red pandas, prairie dogs, lemurs, tarapins, sloth, crazy fast armadillo and the creepy cute naked mole rats. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. It's a pretty place to walk around and see animals. Very well kept. We went back at night and enjoyed the laser light show to music for the holidays.
