Belvedere Obelisco di Opicina

Since the Opicina Tramway is out of service at the moment we caught the replacement #2/ bus from Piazza Oberdan getting off at Oberlisco. From the bus stop there is a short walk up the hill to an underpass to get across the busy road safely. The Obelisk monument was constructed in 1830 in honor of Emperor Francis I of Austria, from this point it is a short walk to the Belvedere where there are views down to Trieste and out to sea. We sat in the shade on the bench seats and eat our lunch before setting out on the Strada Vicentina (commonly called Napoleonica). There is a small car onsite.

If you plan to visit Trieste, I advise you to climb these stairs. Once at the top you will have a great view over the city and will be a few steps away from the San Giusto Castle :-).
