6 Nature & Parks in Palm Beach That You Shouldn't Miss

July 22, 2021 Brain Ambrose

Palm Beach has long lured America's big name social elite, from the Kennedys to the Pulitzers to the Trumps. If you don't have the Jaguar, catch a Palm Tram around the city. Opulent extravagance is the order of the day. But if you can take your eyes off the glittering procession of socialites and the prices at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago Spa and in Worth Avenue stores, there are plenty of other sights to be seen. Don't miss Henry Morrison Flagler Museum or the hopping nightlife on Clematis Street.

This park is named after oil distributor Richard G. Kreusler. He was 47 years old and a member-elect of Palm Beach's Town Council when he was shot through the front door of his Palm Beach home in 1976. He passed away at the hospital and the story of the crime is still one of Palm Beach's most baffling murder mysteries. The person who was convicted of the crime claims he was framed and the real motive and who was involved in the murder of R.G. Kreusler has never been resolved to the satisfaction of everyone involved. After serving 15 years, the person convicted of the crime had his sentence commuted by Governor Lawton Chiles and he moved out of state. It was the first time Florida ever granted clemency for a first-degree murder. A fictionalized account of the crime was recounted in the book, Murder in Palm Beach. R.G. Kreusler Park is owned and operated by Palm Beach County. It is also known as Midtown Beach. The park is located just north of the Lake Worth Municipal Beach. The 4.2 acre park has 450 feet of guarded beach along the Atlantic Ocean. Saltwater fishing and surfing is permitted outside the guarded swimming areas. The $3 an hour parking fee is paid through an electronic kiosk. The park has a restroom, shower, benches, open green area, and access to the beautiful life guarded beach. Dining options are located just steps away in the historic casino turned restaurant and entertainment complex and at Benny's on the Beach. This is a great beach to enjoy some of the best surf and sand fun South Florida has to offer.

What a majestic exotic specimen. I learnt that it is over 186 years old. Quite an extra-ordinary sight situated on the pleasant grounds of the Royal Poinciana Chapel. Pleased to know that Church is committed to preserving and protecting this tree for future enjoyment. The root structure is impressive.
