Incredible fall leaves the 3rd week of September 2020. South of Lutsen off of Onion River Road (15 minute gravel road-ugh), very pretty overlooks (4). If you can only do part, choose the leftside (clockwise) once you get to the loop.

We hiked Eagle Mountain with our dog and some friends while visiting the North Shore. Note that Eagle Mountain is near Lutsen on the North Shore and nowhere near Burtrum. It's the highest point in Minnesota at 2301 feet and the hike is about 7 miles round trip, moderate in difficulty. Most of the hike is in Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Superior National Forest and so a permit is required both for day hikes and camping. Most of the hike is flat, passing some scenic lakes before the ascent up the mountain. There is a plaque at the top, but it's forested so no views. Before reaching the top, there are a couple nice overlooks with views of the surrounding lakes and forest. Overall, a very scenic hike to hit a state highpoint.

4. Sawbill Mountains

Minnesota mountain range.

5. Sawtooth Mountains

Mountain range located on Minnesota's North Shore.

6. Lookout Mountain

Six hundred feet tall, this is part of Minnesota's Sawtooth Mountain Range.
