Very nice

Reviewed By travelbefore20wasfun

This hotel has been is renovated and feels like a boutique hotel in a big city. Great modern design, decor and well-appointed rooms. At 3 stars, it exceeded expectations and was better than hotels with a 4-star rating. The hotel is situated within a Catholic monastery and is owned by nuns as a way to generate income. The hotel is run by secular management and includes conference facilities. My room was spacious, comfortable and had a private balcony. The TV was huge and modern, although no English channels were available. The bed had USB outlets at the nightstand, which was a life savor since I lost my electrical outlet power adaptor. Breakfast was phenomenal. A very extensive buffet with something for everyone’s food preferences. Dinner was also a buffet. The food quality at dinner wasn’t as good as breakfast, in my opinion. But the wine selection was sufficient and the prices cheap. If I had one suggestion it would be to have a properly translated welcome letter in English and French. I recognize 90% of guests are probably German-speaking but it would be helpful if all of the information was available because not every staff member can speak English. The only real complaints I have are the horrendous parking situation and the lack of a gym. In terms of the gym, the hotel is hosting business conferences. It would be nice if there was a small gym with treadmills and other basic fitness equipment. Thankfully, there is a temporary parking section at the entrance to the hotel. Otherwise, it is a little bit of a walk with luggage. The parking is an issue for anyone with bags or during bad weather. Besides those two complaints, anything else is a problem with the 3-star and 4-star hotels in Germany and not this hotel. It’s a problem I’ve only encountered in Germany: No coffeemaker or tea pot in room. You can’t get coffee until breakfast at 7 a.m. Only 1 or 2 pillows, compared to the 4 pillows that most hotels outside Germany feature. No lotion or other toiletries in bathroom of room. Bar soap replaced with liquid soap, which is cheaper but not as sanitary because dispensers can spread diseases. If I was in the Constance area, I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again. I liked the religious connection and thought it was great in terms of value for money. With a few changes, it would be a superb 4-star hotel. Right now, they have a 4-star product, but more of a guesthouse/B&B standard.

Excellent - like on your own castle

Reviewed By Vrot

This time we were with the whole company during 4 days on the Freudental Castle and performed our annual strategy meeting. We do this for 20 years but we liked it best here at the Castle. Very personal service, the beautifully restored castle, the fine food and wines in a unique setting did please to all participants very much. But be aware: the charming part is that the castle is not a hotel as you know it. If you want 24 hours reception service or entertainment then please do not go there and let the castle to those who like this incomparable accommodation.

Camping Willam

Disappointed

Reviewed By KTMKent

Any where on Bodensee should be nice, but not from this campsite. Reception staff on the Sunday were off hand and a bit rude, especially the bloke who was a bit cocky. Whole site was a bit tired and seemed run down with lots of static caravans. Only saving grace was the food in the restaurant which was well priced, tasty and huge portions, but would go back to site

Great for staying with young kids

Reviewed By Fizgee

Really happy with our one night stay here with our 4yr old and 22mth old. The top floor suite with kitchenette and large rooms perfect for our needs. There was a private party in the restaurant and the owners were concerned it would disturb us, however we didn't hear anything. Great small garden and playground, swing slide , cubby house. We could sit and have a drink whilst watching the kids. Yummy help yourself breakfast. No eggs+bacon and not great coffee, but a wide continental selection. High chair avail. So close to the lake shore where there are more playgrounds and opportunity for the kids to do their feet in the freezing early March water! Plenty of restaurants waking distance, train station very close, bakery too. We hope to return in warmer weather, and would by that stage be bringing our 3rd child newborn and feel the hotel would suit us perfectly.
