Agua Azul is fabulous. It’s waterfall after waterfall and so expansive. There are multiple places to swim as well as a rope swing that we used to jump in. Lots of vendors and food. You can easily spend the day at the falls.

So beautiful, an amazing experience and a perfect day! Almost didn't see it because of the wind, so it is not always a guaranteed excursion. The government can close it, even if it is a beautiful day, but the winds are higher. They opened after we thought we would miss it. Don't miss it!

The tour started off fine, we had two hours at the chiflon waterfall. This is an absolute must as it is a beautiful waterfall and a good climb. The trouble started afterwards, we saw people working on the van (never a good sign). We stopped for lunch (non commissioned) at amazing little places near a viewpoint of montebello lakes. Probably the best lunch I have had on any of these tours. It was raining at this point and was still raining when we got to Montebello lakes. The lakes would probably be very beautiful on a sunny day, but while raining they were mysterious and still beautiful in a different way. There were also shops and an area where you could go to Guatemala. This was fun. I had assumed we would get two hours as our guide didnt speak english. We got an hour and a half and were actually late back to the bus. Being late didnt matter much though as the bus wouldn't start. When it did start it ran and then stalled. All the men got out to try and help push start it. This didnt work, so we waited for other tour buses. The other buses took us to another set of lakes to then be transferred home. After those lakes we on a new bus drove for about 10 minutes, stopped and then got back on our old bus. After 5 minutes on the old bus we needed gas, so we waited. Then in another 15 mins we stopped 4 times, and stalled a couple. After the last stop (they kept saying we would be getting a new bus) the bus started and we only stopped periodically for the bus driver to check on the engine. We did make it home thankfully. I feel bad for the bus driver, he did a great job amidst the stress of a bad bus. Overall, I don't think that you should book through viator as an english speaker. The company that they gave us was Otisa, which has bad reviews. Book when you get to San Cristobal. If you book through viator make sure you check who is doing the actual tour.

5. BONAMPAK AND YAXCHILAN MAYAN RUINS - Private Tour from Palenque

Karma Trails

The Mayan ruins at Bonampak are a beautiful site with a very unique and interesting feel, not fully excavated, so much still covered by rainforest. One of the most amazing finds at Bonampak are the three rooms of murals, depicting important ceremonial and political events, which are some of the best preserved examples of the Maya painted art. These exquisite murals changed the long held notion that the Maya only sacrificed warriors in the ball games and that they were for the most part a peaceful people. The murals tell a much bloodier story. The Yaxchilán archaeological site can be reached only by an hour long incredible boat ride down the mighty Usumacinta river through one of the last great North American rainforests. Riding in a long boat, you'll be exactly between the shores of Guatemala and Mexico, and If you keep on the lookout you will see many of the rainforest wild inhabitants, like monkeys, toucans and eagles, so as crocodiles in the river water.

Salvatore was very knowledgeable and gave us a great day! He was flexible in the order we did things, suggested Tulum first before it got too hot, then lunch, Coba and then a Cenote. For us this was perfect! We all (2 couples) felt like we learned something and got some great insights to the Mayan culture and lively conversation during the drives. Absolutely recommend this tour!
