At 1,700 feet above sea level, the views are astonishing as you amble along the lanes, taking in the red-roofed homes, banana trees and oleander bushes. In a 150-year-old cottage is the Saba Museum, once the home of a 19th-century sea captain, which displays period pieces and old documents. Windwardside makes an excellent base for hiking, especially up the 1,064 steps to the top of Mount Scenery.

What a terrific experience and well worth your time and money. Jo is a lovely woman, funny and patient. She showed us many ways to create our own unique glass gems. From beads to hearts and many other structures. This is an activity almost anyone can do. My son (20 yrs old) absolutely loved it!! He made some personalized gifts for his girlfriend and Mom. Boy, is he gonna score! MUCH better than buying a "souvenir" made in China. We did the 3 hour class and would do it again. She is a true artist. Her workshop is safe and has many items on display to buy. I picked up a few items and made a few things myself that I will always cherish. Priceless moments and unique mementos my son and I will never forget. This is a must do in Saba. Thank you Jo.

The trail up Mount Scenery consists of packed dirt and carved stone steps. No two steps are the same height or width. If it has been rainy at all, chances are the steps are slick. A walking stick or pole is helpful (walking sticks are usually available at the little trailhead building). Once close to the top, I felt like I was in a scene from Jurassic Park: huge tree ferns, dense green foliage, rugged rock outcroppings, all partially obscured by swirling mist. And if you are fortunate to be there when the mist lifts, fabulous views of the island.

Windwardside is a beautiful town. Over looking the ocean with an amazing view of Mount Scenery, good accommodation options and many great restaurants. We loved our stay there. For divers, Sea Saba is a great shop, helped us set everything up from tours to diving and dinner reservations. One of the friendliest places we have ever been. 100% recommend visiting Saba.

On a recent dive trip to the Dutch island of Saba I stopped by the Harry L Johnson museum after diving one day. While the purpose of my trip was diving, I like to learn about the locations that I'm visiting. The Harry L Johnson museum provides a unique look into Saba's past. The museum is housed in one of the remaining original Saban homes and was bequeathed to the island by its last owner, Harry L Johnson. The house is full of artifacts from Saba's past and shows how the original settlers lived on this volcanic island. The museum is tended by a local person who has extensive knowledge of Saba's history. I found the museum and the guide's presentation very interesting and informative. If you are on the island of Saba, the Harry L Johnson museum is definitely worth a visit

While touring Saba this was a wonderful place to stop. Upon entering you are greeted by Rene who inherited the elaborate collection from his Dutch family. It consists of furniture, art, religious relics, and more. This relatively small collection is brought to life by his extensive knowledge and personal connection with each display. The beautiful Dutch Tiles in the collection date back to the 1600s. Over all this museum was definitely worthwhile and thank you Rene for the tour!
