Montana de Oro State Park

A great network of biking trails make this state park a perfect destination for expert and beginner bikers alike.

The Adventure Buddies went hiking at Montana de Oro and it was so incredibly beautiful. The cliffs with caves, tide pools, beaches, wildlife.. what a wonderful surprise it was for us to be able to capture incredible photos of the landscape and central coast cliffs. There were tons of sea otters in the waves playing. Nice to walk, explore, and stop at a beautiful picnic bench with spectacular breathtaking views. We highly recommend!

Gorgeous views- hills behind, cliffs ahead, and a short level path down to the beach. Incredible tide pools with lots of creatures to be found. Huge kelp and lots of sandstone with urchin pits in it. Lots of fun for kids too. Careful on the rocks!

Closed for covid. We love this place because there are not as many people as the Montana de Oro bluffs. We've seen otters, whales, falcon, kestrel, numerous sea birds. It can be windy. It can be cold, It can be hot. Always beautiful.

Elfin Forest Preserve

This is a very well executed preserve with pamphlets, informative stops, and a well maintained boardwalk. In addition to the boardwalk there are several other sand paths that you can explore and get a closer experience to the Elfin Oaks. You can enter or exit on many different streets which is nice, so you can mix up your walks if you frequent here. The Audubon society and others do nature walks here to help you learn more about the local flora and fauna as well.

Los Osos Oaks State Reserve

Magical. The elfin preserve is better known, but Los Osos oaks is the greatest. Doesn’t look like much from the road. Once you get inside, you’ll find ancient twisted oaks covered with dripping moss. Not a huge park, so just wander and get lost on the winding paths. Popular with families and mostly flat so any easy walk. No services, but great fir a picnic. I’ve told many children I’ve run into there that I just saw a fairy around the corner, and I just might have! Amazing place to let your imagination run wild.
