Village Artisanal de Ouagadougou

From 2007-2010 the Village was a favorite place to take short-term visitors to expose them to a wide variety of arts, crafts, and frankly, initiative on display in Burkina Faso. Tuareg leatherwork, Mossi metal casting, fabric dyeing, musical instrument construction, wood carving, weaving (cloth and reconditioned plastic grocery bags), and my favorite, Papier du Sahel. PdS is a women's co-op that manually re-processes used paper (they loved the finely shredded paperfrom the embassy) to make greeting cards, notepads, etc. Anyway, the Village is an interesting, must-see spot for any visitors. It's compact, well-designed, and has ample parking outside its wall.

Mosque of Bobo-Dioulasso

Worth travelling 1,000 or so miles from Cote D'Ivoire on its own and 2 days of relentless bus journeys and heat. Just brilliant! On top of your entry fee you must pay for a guide (you to decide how much) but it is worth it - you learn something of the way the mosque is built and you are contributing to the future of this spectacular building
