Gallipoli was the starting point of the Salento’s big commerce of oil. Frome there, the oil was ferried all around Europe, than was used to light up cities and houses. So the city and their surroundings were rich, and traces of this prosperity are still there. We will cycle towards Sannicola, in the hinterlands: here we will visit an ancient underground oil mill of XVII century. Crossing the landscape, between vineyards and dry-stone walls, we will see the historical centre of Galatone. Than back to the see, to enjoy the wild nature of Porto Selvaggio: here we will walk in the pinewood before to have a swim and a nice picnic. We will go back to Gallipoli riding along the coast.

We were recommended this tour by a good friend of ours and we are so grateful. We have recently retired and had this tour planned for this Autumn but then Covid happened. Carlo at Salento Bici Tour was really helpful in providing updates on the situation in Italy and the options if we needed to cancel. At one point we decided not to go but the thought of a long Winter prompted us to go for it. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour that takes you around the coast of Salento and it’s surrounding countryside side starting and finishing in beautiful Lecce. The GPS route avoids the main roads and down country lanes and alley ways: passing a myriad of olive groves, charming towns and villages and spectacular cliffs and beaches. The architecture is amazing: so many examples Baroque architecture, imposing castles, defence towers and lighthouses. We stayed at a variety of B&B’s and villas and for most evenings the tour includes reservations at local restaurants and what memorable meals we enjoyed. There are also local food and drink tastings: these were a bit hit and miss but we thoroughly enjoyed the lunch of cheese, wine and homemade Limoncello at a cheese farm hosted by the very charming owner. Salento Bici have invested in new bikes and e-bikes and were of very good quality and fun to ride. We are very grateful for the team at Salento Bici for being so friendly and helpful: thank you so much. It is worth adding an extra day or two at the end of the tour to take in the sights of Lecce and Bari ( we flew into Bari. Nb you can also get flights into Brindisi).

It was an amazing tour at the coast of Salento. We had a lot of fun! Everything was very well organized. The explanations (in Italian as well as in english) were quite interesting and it was great to snorkel at the coast. We saw a different world under water. The aperitif after swimming on the boat was delicious. We had a great tour with the amazing team of via del mediterraneo. Thanks a lot!

We wanted to do this activity on 20/09. On that fateful day we received, 2 hours in advance of the start of this activity, an email that the activity was cancelled. We received no explanation to why. We tried to phone them multiple times but they didnt even bother to pick up their phone. Terrible costumer service.

The tour provider was non-communicative. He canceled the trip on Wednesday and did not contact me again. I contacted him on Saturday after I was charged for the tour and asked if we could do the tour on Sunday, as I had inquired on Wednesday. He said yes but it was so difficult to arrange transportation in this short time period we were unable to attend. He did not offer any assistance and in fact, it took him a whole day to respond to me.
