Wow, is all I can say. What an amazingly helpful young lady that spoke with us on our stop en route to Albury. We had stopped to look at Sculptures in the Park at Cooma Cottage and was not sure what else was worth seeing or visiting en route to Albury.
The lady suggested a walk down the main street, seeing all the historic buildings and a large selection of cafes where we would stop for lunch.
Also recommend that we stop in Holbrook to see the big submarine . Well worth the visit.
Extremely helpful , full of knowledge and worth stopping in no matter where in the local surrounds you wish to visit. We will come back and explore more next time

Tootsie Fine Art and Design

Tootsie Fine Art & Design Studio provides unique exhibition spaces, restored workshop space for hire and a sculpture garden for artists and art lovers of many mediums to present their work and their passions to the public. An authentic restoration of a beautiful Art Deco Building from 1937 has been a labour of love. It was the first 24/7 petrol station between Melbourne and Sydney run by Caltex. We provide a friendly and funky atmosphere with freshly roasted coffee, gourmet cakes and a light lunch- something different from the usual gallery. We have created an authentic 1940's and 50's environment to suit handcrafted works of creation by artists and artisans. Open hours: Wednesday-Saturday 9:30am- 4pm and the last Sunday of the month 9:30am-2pm.

This wasn't open when we were passing through Yass but we decided to stop and take a sticky beak anyway. It was worth the stop to appreciate the architectural design of the building and the sculptures outside. Worth a look if you're in the area.Thank you very much for your lovely review. It's definitely been a labour of love and we love to here that people appreciate and love the work we have done to restore this amazing building!

Cooma Cottage

Reviewed By JayJay015 - Melbourne, Australia

Our visit to Cooma Cottage today will be remembered for a long time to come. Hamilton Hume, a prominent Australian explorer with many expeditions to his name, lived out his days here. He had such an interesting life that you could literally hear about it for hours, and this is where the informative volunteers come in - Ian showed us around the house and was the perfect guide. Not only was the tour extremely interesting, he engaged the children so that they were able to enjoy it just as much. It was Ian's suggestion to also visit Hume's gravesite at Yass cemetery, which was also well worth it. We then walked around the Gardens and also met Chris, the owner of two beautiful Clydesdales that live at the property. The kids were able to pat and feed Prince - at 18 hands would be the biggest horse we'd probably ever see. We stayed chatting to Chris and Julie for another hour, and it really topped off a great morning. Cooma Cottage is a must to visit if you are heading to the beautiful town of Yass, but be aware it is run by volunteers and has limited opening hours.

Yass Railway Museum

Reviewed By Tony W - Sydney

The Yass Tramway line from Yass Junction has always been a unique rail line in NSW, especially with the picturesque rail bridge. This small museum is dedicated to preserving this piece of NSW rail heritage. The small group of volunteers are dedicated to this task and are a wealth of information on the history of the line and the local area.

Royal Hotel Yass

Craft beer, share plates and great tunes! Not your typical country Hotel. The Royal has undergone a transformation from typical old school pub to modern bar, its chilled vibe, great drinks list and carefully crafted food menu will keep you coming back for more. Let our staff recommend some great local wines and craft beers while you sit in our large open courtyard and let the night roll. Head Chef Joel Shipman has created the perfect menu for your long lunch or casual dinner.

Passing through Yass on my way to nowhere in particular I decided to stop at the Royal Hotel (RH) for a counter lunch and one quiet ale. The RH will take you back in time, with its semi-circular bar, framed footy shirts on the wall, bar stools - no chairs - and a noisy TAB, with 13 televisions displaying the countries horse racing, greyhound and trotting meetings. Oh yes, plus 2 TV for the general public, no sound just the picture! Adjacent to the TAB a door leads to a small area full of Pokie machines, whilst another door leads to the pool table bar.
There is an outdoor area, complete with large BBQ and trestle tables and benches - plus a small smoking area. Meals are served throughout the hotel and prices range from $14 for a small pizza to $28 for a steak. At the time of my visit the lunch time specials included Chicken & Corn Soup - Stuffed Chicken Breast - Seafood Rissotto, Brandy Snap Basket and Creme Brule'. I went with the SCB and found that to be tasty and of adequate portion size to satisfy my hunger.
The place was clean and tidy and the staff extremely friendly. Not a bad place to stop for lunch if passing through Yass.
