Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie

This was a late Spring visit but many wildflowers were still in bloom. Unfortunately the bison herd was hiding from us and didn't get to see them. Staff at the Visitor Center were friendly and helpful. Lots of material to help you identify plants and birds.

Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery

The Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery is a reflective stop to think about the men and women who fight for our freedom. It was also an education for my friend from Spain. It was a meaningful stop on our Route 66 tour.

Up and left town without a trace! Fortunately, I didn't have a thing in there. Heard she left a lot of people hanging, with no recourse. Sad.

Gemini Giant

This is a throw back to the old days. It is located at the now closed Launching Pad fast food restaurant. I believe he statue was converted from a man holding a muffler to the space man. Notice the short sleeves.

There are about eleven antique or specialty shops in downtown Wilmington and about seven or eight restaurants or bars to stop and relax. You may find the antique or the collectible that you are looking for. A pleasant area grounded in the Route 66 legend.
