Snowflake Ski Club

Reviewed By Beavercowboy - Muscatine, United States

hoot! This is a 4,000 person party with an occasional human flying by! I had a blast at “the jumps”! This was my first ski-jump event—EVER! Boy, was I in for an experience! I took my son, his wife and their two grade-school-age girls. They were all amazed at all the things there was to do there! The kids had a money-spiked snow pile to paw through. They rode their sleds down a short hill. They also watched guys ski-jumping on the huge hill. There are horse-drawn sled rides there but we didn’t do that. (Maybe next year.) There is good food and drinks there of all types. It is not “gotcha”priced! Very reasonable. The people (volunteers) of Westby put on one whale of an event! If you haven’t gone before, the only question I have is, WHY? I hope to see YOU next year!

Dregne's Scandinavian Gifts

Reviewed By DebK193

We generally stop at Dregne's if we take Route 14 (Main Street, what else?) to the Twin Cities. I've always gotten unique items that I generally save for Christmas, just because they're so much fun. I was hunting for a lady garden gnome, but they didn't have them, which proves it's a man's world still, I guess. I recommend them for: male gnomes; socks; great Swedish and Norwegian edibles; books about Scandinavian life; Christmas tree ornaments; and just a general friendly, relaxed walk-around if you're not hunting anything specific. It's still well worth a stop.

Westby Cooperative Creamery

Reviewed By DebK193

We make it a point to stop in Westby if we're heading to the Twin Cities via Route 14. We've bought butter, cheese curds, and the like (I always carry a cooler so they travel okay). Also, we heard they're putting up a storage bin shaped like a tub of cottage cheese, which has won awards. Well, last week we bought some cottage cheese just to see what all the fuss was about. It's the best I've ever had. I can see why it's praised so highly. If you go through Westby, hit the charming little Scandinavian shops, to be sure, but don't miss a stop at the Creamery. Buy more than you think you need, 'cause it's great stuff.

Nordic Creamery

Reviewed By TennisgalGreenBay_WI - Green Bay, United States

Very out of the way location, but fun to drive these Driftless roads, not to mention the scenery from every hill is outstanding. We stayed in Viroqua and this is a short jaunt from city center. I am always looking for interesting cheeses, and the goat cheese here is varied and yummy. The young man who waited on us was very friendly and helpful. We got to try several varieties, plus it has several shelves of souvenirs from the area worthy of checking out. I really loved the Grumpy Goat goat cheese...not too gamey. Couldn't buy it there, since we didn't have a cooler, but found it at Viroqua Co-op. Yum! Make sure to check out the scenery from outside this Creamery...very pastoral.
