Rumford Falls

The Spring time is the best chance to catch the Falls at their full glory.
But, often after a wet period with significant rain fall the falls will burst into action. These falls are accessed by several park and walk fascilities and are free to the public.
Often lit at night the Falls become a magical cross over between man and nature.
The thundering torrent can be felt thumping in your chest and will amaze you as you feel the spray and hear the rushing, growling tempest as it turns to white foam as the volume of river ascends from above. "Locals Tip" at low water or when no water is coming over the dam the upper pools can be accessed by Scrambling down the South bank off of the old railroad grade. These huge potholes hold all kinds of fish and make for a rare glimpse into the geologic history of how these Falls where created.

Hotel Rumford

Where were coming back from a bike ride from Rangeley and was starving. We passed this place unexpectedly and saw the big sign outside Today $5.00 burgers and that is just what we were in the mood for. What a great find. Service from the bartender was fast and friendly. We had drinks in just a few short minutes and 2 AMAZING hamburgers with house made chips that we could not stop eating in about 10 minutes. Cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is very nice and very clean. Wish I would have taken a picture but I did get one of our meal and the outside of the building. If you're driving by, be sure to stop in for a wonderful meal. We know we will for sure on our trip next year.
