Briones Park

Large and isolated, this park whisks you out of the city in a hurry.

It always amazes me that we have such an amazing open space so close to one of the largest cities in the country. Well it is true that there are a lot of open spaces and hiking/biking areas in the Bay Area and for my dollar, this has got to be one of the best. I like climbing hills and this park has several good climbs. From the entrances you usually start out with a climb of up to 100 flights of stairs. If you come in through the Alhambra Staging Area then there is an option to go slow and easy by taking the right-hand branch once you come into the park. From there you can go into the park for over a mile without too much of a climb if you want to avoid them. Otherwise turn left and head up the hill. In the first mile you will climb a good 70 flights or so. To get a great climb, check out the map or AllTrails and hike to Briones Peak. On a clear day it has an amazing view of both Mt Diablo and the bay. It is not uncommon to see deer, wild turkeys, red-tailed hawks and even occasionally coyotes.

Old time movie theatre art-deco style with a wine bar restaurants and coffee shops within close walking distance and parking in the back. They host fun special events as well. Love the largest room with balcony. Great way to see movies.
