Mir Castle

This is a beautifully restored castle that is worth a visit for the building itself. Unfortunately, the content of the museum is lacking. Most of the exhibition is copies of originals that are elsewhere so you're left feeling a little cheated.

St. Nicholas' Church

After visiting the Church we feel so good because we never feel any difference whether we are christian or Hindu, it was very old and the architecture was very beautiful and the window glasses were antique to watch and sit to see some culture of the country.

Chapel and Burial Vault Svyatopolk-Mirskikh

Reviewed By saronic - Zurich, Switzerland

The last owners of Mir Castle before the Soviets took over had been the Russian Svyatopolk-Mirskii family. The had done changes at the castle, had put together a big library (which got destroyed during WW II) and they also built this chapel and burial vault for themselves in the park at the back of the castle.
While the castle itself had quite a few visitors, here I was alone. The chapel was closed, but then a man showed up, who opened it for for me. It was hardly worth it. While the chapels exterior is quite pleasant, the interior and especially the iconostasis and its icons are definitely not of high artistic value.
More than the chapel I enjoyed walking in the park with some big trees and along the adjoining lake or big pond, from where there are good views of Mir Castle.

We went to Mir on a one day trip from Minsk. It,s about 80 Km, and the roads are fine. The little obelisk in the jewish part of Mir is not much to see, but the surrounding town with the old tree houses is interesting and absolutely worth a trip. Mir is ine of the very few town remaining from the time before the nazi destruction of most of Belarus.
