We found this place a little off the beat and track. You literally walk through a village from way back, with craftsmen demonstrating their skill. The wood work is exquisite, and you can be sure your purchase ( reasonably priced ) is unique

For the most part, this is self-guided tour (guidebooks in English available), but we also had a very fine docent/volunteer who opened some of the locked buildings for us. She was charming. Very much enjoyed getting to see this historic look at farm life. Baby goats were fun to watch, too. There is a snack bar; a school tour of children was enjoying their home-cooked sandwiches. It's a very welcoming place and situated beautifully in a forest followed by meadows.

At one end of the town centre, this wonderful modern and well laid out gallery, has an excellent collection of the most significant Slovak artists of the 20th century exhibited here. Specific periods, on which the gallery is orientated are the 30ties and the 40ties, when Martin was an eminent cultural centre. See here a lot you may not have heard of... G. Mallý, M. M. Mitrovský, P. J. Kern, J. Hanula, M. Benka, M. A. Bazovský, J. Alexy, M. Galanda, Ľ. Fulla and some you may remember afterwards.
