Yowie Park

Reviewed By WorldTravla7 - Cairns, Australia

The park is named in honour of an aboriginal Australian folklore being called a Yowie reputed to have roamed the hills of Kilcoy. The yowie is certainly memorable and the yowie statue in the park sticks in my mind from a school excursion out to Somerset Dam back in 1989. It was great to come back and see it 30 years later and take a relaxing walk through the lush green park, and around the lake filled with lillipads & water birds and read the interpretive signage re the history of the area. There is a craft store and historical museum adjacent to the park as well which looked interesting but was closed when I visited.

Woongooroo Estate

Woongooroo Estate is a family owned vineyard and Cellardoor Cafe in the glorious Somerset Valleys Wine Region just 1 hour from Brisbane. Our specialty is wine and cheese matching for which bookings can be made.

Decided to have a weekend in Kilcoy and support the local businesses after a terrible drought period. Love visiting local wineries so Woongooroo Estate was our first 'port of call' and we weren't disappointed. Arrived before lunch and was greeted by Phil and Gail. Started with the wine tasting which we thoroughly enjoyed and for lunch we shared a Mediterranean platter for two which consisted of various cheeses, meats, olives, bread etc. Locally produced and fresh. Had a wonderful bottle of Somerset Red (Merlot and Shiraz) served chill with our lunch. No - we didn't drink it all as I still had to drive to Kilcoy but enjoyed the rest later. A great place to visit and friendly hosts.

Winya Wines

Reviewed By kevcam26 - Brisbane, Australia

I visited this winery quite a while back. Kilcoy is full of good wineries, with good wines coming from each and every one of them and this winery is no exception, nestled away on Winya Rd this is another winery to stop into if you are up for a winery tour just as good as the Barossa or the Hunter but done the Qld way.
