Howe Caverns

At the great cave of the Northeast, an elevator takes you 156’below ground. The doors open into a prehistoric underground cavern 6,000,000 years in the making! Trained tour guides help navigate the cave and teach about its magnificent natural features. Back on the surface, mine for gemstones at Howe Caverns Mining Co. Beginning summer 2011, enjoy the first phase of Howe High Adventures—featuring ropes courses, climbing walls, zip lines and more!

This is a hidden gem in NYS. 10,000 year old cave with a fabulous guided tour, easy walking paths, and even a short boat ride made this adventure truly unique. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, student discount with ID, and delicious cheddar cheese sold that was aged in the cave all added to a very positive experience. Fun for all ages (we had four children with us ranging in ages from 15-20).

Iroquois Indian Museum

The Iroquois Indian Museum building is a work of art designed in the shape and spirit of the old longhouses that once graced the valleys of upstate New York. Visitors walk through the Museum in a counter- clockwise direction mimicking Skywoman’s movements as she created earth on Turtle’s back. Archeology exhibits focus on the ancestors of the Iroquois. History exhibits highlight the men’s realm of hunting, warfare, chieftainships, and games and the women’s realm of the longhouse, the clans, the crops, and politics. The Museum represents the worlds most comprehensive collection of modern Iroquois art work. This collection celebrates the ancient unity of the Iroquois still expressed in the creative spirit of today’s artists. A special interactive family area introduces visitors to Iroquois traditions through a variety of crafts, games and technologies. A guide posted Nature Park of 45 acres is open year round for walks, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Call for current hours.

Secret Caverns

Reviewed By VipulRawal - Mumbai, India

This 100 ft underground waterfall is definitely a hidden gem & an amazingly unique experience one should have. We visited this place on the way to our tour to Niagara Falls. We were not very excited when we heard its name as we didn’t do any research around it. But the moment we started approaching this place we started seeing snow filled places all around. It was an great experience for us walking down inside the cavern. The path down to the falls is narrow & slippery but a scenic place with different types of rock formations. We clicked loads of pics there. The temperature below changes and was freezing cold down (probably we visited in November). The falls this deep down are spectacular and worth visit. The entry fee to the secret caverns is $18. Suggestions: A must visit in between if you’re driving to Niagara Falls from New York & carry proper winter wears to safeguard yourself from freezing cold temperatures.
