Covington is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,961, making it the third-least populous city in Virginia. It is surrounded by Alleghany County, of which it is also the county seat. Located at the confluence of Jackson River and Dunlap Creek, Covington is one of three cities (with Roanoke and Salem) in the Roanoke Regional Partnership. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the city of Covington with Alleghany county for statistical purposes.

This was definitely worth viewing. The area is simply lovely, bridge amazing, park wonderful, water clear and overall a wonderful, clean setting. (The washrooms are awfully dirty, stinky and need to be attended to, so plan accordingly.) We would return to the tranquil setting of this bridge and park and recommend it.

It was very cold the day we were there, but the staff was very helpful and friendly. A nice comfortable gift shop. The museum is very well laid out. It is small, but still plenty to see. On warmer days they have garden trains that they run. Not much rolling stock, but still a nice quick stop.

This was a quick but beautiful stop. You can't hike to the bottom anymore (fenced off and signs warn that you are being recorded and will be fined). Its a beautiful view but disappointed that i couldn't experience them up-close like I had hoped.

We visited Lake Moomaw through Bolar Mountain Recreation Area. The lake was fairly quiet when we visited during an early June weekend. I was surprised at how chilly the nights got but we were prepared. We loved it so much we're going back in a few weeks.
You can rent kayaks and canoes on the lake by the Marina at Bolar Mountain. The lake is home to great fishing, bird watching, sunsets, and being alone with nature. We loved swimming in the lake but don't forget your water shoes! There are some sharp rocks on the bottom.

A wonderfully maintained flat trail on a former railbed that you can practically have all to yourself even on a gorgeous day. Brainless hill-free biking appropriate for all skill levels and even skinny, smooth tires. Lots of shade and picnic tables/benches along the way so yo can savor every moment.
