Wallace State Park

Less than an hour from Kansas City, Wallace State Park is an island of serenity. Visitors can fish in the park’s six-acre lake or hike one of four scenic trails with benches along the way for relaxing. Picnic sites that are shaded by trees are scattered throughout and the family-oriented campground includes modern restrooms and hot showers.

We had driven a long way and needed just an overnight spot for our 31' travel trailer, and saw this park was near I-35. We arrived around 8:30 p.m. We got lucky as they were full but someone had just pulled out of a spot 2 hours earlier, so they could rent it to us. Oddly, though, they have a bizarre policy that if someone paid for a site, they hold it even if they don't show up. So there was another site beside ours that was empty and had been empty for 2 days, but they wouldn't rent it...that seems just downright stupid.
Anyway, sites paved but ours was not real level. Bathrooms amazingly clean and tiled. Lovely! We usually just shower in our own camper since most bathrooms are not up to par, but this made for a lovely experience! Also dump is behind the shower house - never seen that location before in a state park - and they also have laundry. Helpful camp host. Reasonable rate. Great over night stop...but book ahead for they run full it seems and don't rent sites even if they're empty! Sites are spacious and have a picnic table. Quiet park. Pretty and wooded.

My wife was looking for wool material for future projects. She didn't find what she wanted at Missouri Star Quilts, but was told this store had wool. Well she wasn't disappointed. She said they had a very good variety of wool. She was very impressed with the shop and said it was well worth visiting. So ladies, if you're into wool and close to Cameron, ya better stop in.

My wife and I were impressed with this community park. It has 4 nice shelters you can reserve for a small fee, each of which has 4 or 5 picnic tables in it and electricity. The park has a nice 9-hole disc golf course. If you play dic golf a lot, these holes are very short and not too challenging, but still fun. The park has tennis courts, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and several kids playground areas with swings, slides, etc. There's a also a community pool on site; not sure about it's hours, open dates or cost.

Grindstone Lake

Went for a short day trip to this conservation area. Lots of waterfowl like cormorants, herons, seagulls, and geese. Mussel shells abundant in the water and shoreline. Fishing available. Hiking is available but trails are not traveled. Very lovely nature area. Could do for a clean up. At 209 acres, it was a fairly short visit but nice.
