Sulakskiy Canyon

This place is better in real life than in the pictures. They call it the Grand Canyon of the Caucasus. So beautiful. The views from above are eye-popping, esp. w/ the bright-colored water. If you have the unction and time and off-road vehicle, you can drive past the water plant on the lower side for about 45-60 minutes till you get to a village they are rebuilding, and they give boat rides and have a small cafe there. Incredible experience! It was a haul to get there but totally worth it!

Citadel, Ancient City and Fortress Buildings of Derbent

Reviewed By Alexander_Kudrin - Samara, Russia

I came to Derbent to see its main attraction - the fortress. There you can climb a steep stone staircase or drive directly to the top of the mountain to the fortress by car. Entrance to the territory of the fortress and the museum - 250 rubles. The territory of the fortress is not very large, you can walk along the walls, some of which can be climbed. From above there is a beautiful view of the city and the sea. There is little left inside, there are several underground prisons - Zindanov, a water storage, a collection of stone anchors. There is also a small exhibition of paintings in a detached building. There is also a small museum on the territory where you can see various archaeological finds, coins, jugs, weapons and clothes. Interesting in principle. There is also a small souvenir shop. Definitely worth a visit.
