A beach town on the Arabian Sea in southern India, Kovalam features three spectacular crescent beaches. The most popular and largest beach is Lighthouse Beach, aptly named for its 30-meter lighthouse, which features a stunning site - the Vizhinjam mosque. For a less crowded beach, visit Samudra Beach, with ample coconut trees and great views of the local fishermen at work.

We visited Kovalam Beach in early November and stayed at the Neelkanta (60 year old hotel with no lift and with pathetic infrastructure) which is located right on the beach. We could hear and see the Arabian sea from our room and watched many glorious sunsets from there. The boats return in the evening with lights on and make for a serene dusk sight.

This is an old dam on Neyyar river located inside a forest area. Great scenic beauty. They have Lion/Deer/Crocodile Safari. But those are ok type. If one loves nature, he can visit this cool and quiet place. This place only has one restaurant operated by KTDC. Don't expect too much from them. But snacks and hot beverages are easily available.

Hawa Beach, popularly known as Eve's Beach, is the most popular of the three beaches of Kovalam. This beach lies opposite to Lighthouse Beach and is full of palm groves. Swimming is not preferred at this beach as the currents are quite strong. Tourists can be seen sunbathing and getting herbal massages at this beach. Catamaran rides can also be availed at Hawa Beach. Due to next to Lighthouse beach so again lots of restaurants selling fresh seafood and tourist shops.I had the most amazing local seafood dishes over there. If you bargain with the restaurants you can get a very good price for the fresh seafood dishes. Its very safe as there are frequent police patrols
