Pakse, or Pakxe (French: Paksé; Laotian: ປາກເຊ [pȁːk séː] "mouth of the river"; Thai: ปากเซ), is the capital and most populous city of the southern Laotian province of Champasak, making it the second most populous city in Laos. Located at the confluence of the Xe Don and Mekong Rivers, it has a population of about 88,000. It also served as the capital of the Kingdom of Champasak until it was unified with the rest of Laos in 1946.

I rented a motorcycle from Lao Go for four days to do the Big Loop of the Bolaven plateau. They gave me a near-new (6000+ km) Honda Wave 100 cc semi automatic bike in excellent condition. It didn't miss a beat on the whole trip. I had a low speed mishap on a gravel road and the bike suffered a couple of scratches and bent items. When I returned the bike I expected a reproof at the very least and a hefty charge to fix the damage, but they took it calmly, and the repair charge was more than reasonable, far less expensive than I expected. The only place I can fault Lao Go is in the lack of information provided, just a sketch map of the loop routes. Maybe they should copy Miss Noy's info sessions.
