Costa de Cocos

Costa de Cocos is about immersing yourself in nature, while relaxing in a hammock suspended under palm trees, enjoying an ice cold beverage on our patio, fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, traveling along the coast in a kayak, or touring the surrounding landscape on foot, observing our local flora and fauna. From our shore you will observe numerous juvenile fish in the shallows, while multiple species of shorebirds feed along the coast. All you hear is the gentle roar of waves breaking on the nearby reef, all you feel is the warm sun and a gentle breeze blowing across your skin. You are surrounded by turquoise waters and dense jungle and mangroves. No skyscrapers, crowds, or cell phones.Costa de Cocos offers a truly unique experience on the frontier of Mexico. Our environmentally friendly resort has much to offer those who seek to experience life off the beaten path. We are located within the Xcalak Reef National Marine Park (Parque Nacional Arrecifes de Xcalak). The closest gas station and ATM are 30 miles (50 km) away, and the closest sizable town, Chetumal, is a distant 130 miles (200 km). Power is provided by the sun, with a generator backup. No square concrete rooms here, you will stay in a private Mayan-style beach bungalow with attached bathroom and shower. You will dine in our shore-front restaurant and bar, with wood decor and thatched roof.During your stay you can go fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving, experience guided bird tours, kayak along the coast, visit Mayan ruins, travel to nearby towns and museums, and visit Belize. We are located five hours south of Cancun and three hours north of Chetumal. Belize and Ambergris Caye are located only a few short miles to the south. We have a wireless Internet connection, but no cell or land-line phone service. The nearby village of Xcalak offers very little in the way of shopping and nightlife. If you are looking for sandy beaches, shopping, and an active night life, it it best not to choose us.

Great restaurant

Didn't stay here but stopped to eat a couple times. Probably the go-to restaurant for tourist in xcalak if Leaky Palapa is closed, which it was at the time of our visit. Best place to meet other travelers and closest thing to a night life in xcalak. Note that the local brew is not always available so don't come here specifically for that or you may be disappointed. I prefer the coconut fish over the coconut shrimp. We actually prefer eating at Sylvia's but they have awesome server here at Cocos who goes by Willie. He alone makes it worth a stop; a smiling, happy and attentive employee. Would definitely return.

Another wonderful stay at Casa Paraiso!

My 5th visit to this beautiful destination did not disappoint. Ben, the hotel manager, and his staff were attentive and welcoming as always. The accommodation is clean and well appointed with truly magnificent views across the white sand to the crystal Caribbean water. This visit I took a trip by boat through the mangroves to the lagoon. I was lucky enough to see manatees and many species of birds. I highly recommend this destination whether you're looking for activities such as diving , snorkelling, fly fishing, bird watching or just a good book and relaxation. Casa Paraiso will be able to organise your vacation for you or leave you in peace to enjoy the solitude.

Flying Cloud Hotel

The Flying Cloud Hotel is a small, 5-room hotel located just north of the town of Xcalak, the oldest and southernmost town on the Mexican-Caribbean Coast. Situtuated only a few miles north of the border with Belize and a world away from the urban hustle and bustle. Xcalak is located within a strictly protected National Marine Park that was established in 2000 after its inhabitants lobbied for its creation to stave off mass-tourism development that had changed nearby towns by bringing in cruise ships, large hotel developments and the ecological impacts that result from them. Its early and comprehensive protection as a Marine Protected Area, along with its rich and unique ecosystem have made Xcalak a privileged location for those seeking to get away to a pristine, unspoiled Paradise far away from the crowds in Cancún and the Riviera Maya.

Reef House

Family Reunion worthy

Reviewed By mary rita e

The Reef House is ideal for a family gathering. The upstairs unit has a well equipped kitchen and a large, beach facing gathering area. The master suite is beautiful and the 2 downstairs units are perfect for additional family members. Ben and Esther and care taking crew have worked hard to update the place and manicure the grounds. They were helpful in every way. We will be back!
