Tour starts at 11:00 am. Patricia, the guide is intelligent, knows the flora and fauna around the area. Anyone can tell that she loves her job, the wildlife and the plants. She eagerly plays a question and answer game about the plants at the beginning of her tour, she is always trying to impart knowlege to her customers in a fun way. It is a great way to see the wildlife up close, the customers are not allowed to touch any of the animals, as the rescue center is always trying to rehab the wildlife to go back to the jungle. But, you are allowed very close to the animals to watch them. Patricia says that the government has laws against the possession of wildlife. When the government finds someone who has possession of a wild animal, the government comes in and confiscates the wild animals from the people that have them in their possession or in their homes. But the government doesn't provide any money to help feed and take care of the wild animals and birds. Patricia has a heart for people, animals and beautiful plants. Go See the Sanctuary!!

Finca La Isla

Established in 1987 in an abandoned cacao farm the botanical garden is a permaculture farm with a mature collection of fruit and spice trees in production and lots of tropical flowers. Corridors of rainforest make it into a fascinating nature park. Visitors will be able to try a fresh fruit drink, taste fruits in season, sample homemade natural chocolate, and learn about medicinals and ethnobotanicals. Finca la Isla is a working farm producing black pepper, fruits, and ornamental plants in commercial quantities. Besides the opportunity to see very rare tropical plants visitors will learn about tropical crops like bananas, black pepper, and nutmeg. The botanical garden is one of the very best places in Costa Rica to see frogs in the wild. Our rainforest will provide the chance to see four different kinds of poison dart frogs, reptiles, toucans and many other birds, sloths, and the marvel of symbiosis and diversity that is the tropical rainforest. Visitors are guaranteed to see the red poison dart frog in the wild.

Such an incredible experience from beginning to end. I just completed my 250 hour Yoga Teachers Training at OM. The location is amazing and located right in the jungle...with sloths, monkeys and chameleons just hanging around. The town of Puerto Viejo and local beaches are just a 5 minute walk from OM. The food is so nourishing and fresh! I don't think we ate the same thing twice unless someone requested it! I left there feeling inspired to go out and share Yoga with the world! The place, the staff, the students, the food, the location, the wildlife just were the icing on the cake! Thank you...I will be back!
